Theres areas for new riders and mature riders to post, but what about those of us who are still young but are experienced riders. It would be great to have an area just for us to post.

im not saying im against the idea, but what kind of things do you think would be discussed there?
I can see some people misconstruing it as a place for younger people just to chat etc...
oh and how young is young? im 18 (just about)

Competing and stuff like that, it should be riders under 21 because thats the age of "young rider" competitions. I dont see why we cant have our own area for riding troubles and competition discussion when the mature riders and new riders have one.

I think the general forums are perfectly adequate tbh.

New Riders face different problems - they're learning from scratch.

Mature riders also face different problems - many of them have confidence issues beyond what youngsters do, as well as physical problems we are too young to have, or have not experienced.

It becomes yet another area to moderate, which I understand to be hard enough already.

From my personal point of view, (and nothing against youngsters here as I am one myself) several of the youngsters we have had on here recently have been childish and immature in their way of posting, and I am not keen on encouraging that, which is what I feel this particular forum would do.

And thinking about it, we have had this dicussion many many times before, and the answer has always been no for the above reasons. ;)

yes true, though don't think younger riders have confidence isues too, for myself when I first got Mayo, he would trample over me and I had practically NO confidence, the only reason I pulled through that was the support on the yard and my love for him;) I take it you mean all the quizzes etc in terms of the childish way of posting. I dunno, I think it lightens the mood sometimes myself:)

Personally I think it would attract some immaturity(sp?)

It would just become another place swamped with quizzes, chat, text speak and polls.

I'm a kid and a young rider but I tend to find the advice from adults more structured :)

As PGG said, it's the quizzes, lapses into text speak, chat and "let's see your pictures" threads that appear every week, not to mention the "my msn is..." threads. Ok some older members are guilty parties too, but it's much more frequent in the younger generations.

Another aspect, is that of age limits on the forum and security. When I joined a few years ago, if you were under 13 you weren't allowed to join. I know we shouldn't have to think about it, but we do, and I think that openly attracting younger members (as a young riders section would do) would make these members more apparent to paedophiles and the like.

ETA, just because we aren't new riders or mature riders (although I am old enough to be legally allowed in the latter :p) doesn't mean we can't go there anyway. The title is just a guide as to the types of threads that ought to be posted in those areas. Ok the mature riders can seem a little close and distant from the rest of us, but if you get in there and post or read the posts, you realise it's no different to the other areas of the forum. Except I bet text speak is even more frowned on. ;)

And the new riders - well they need advice from somewhere. If we all decided that we weren't new riders so we weren't posting in there, then those people would be new riders forever.

I kinda feel guilty id I post on the mature riders section. If they wanted advice of younger people as well wouldn't they of posted in general? The text talk does anoy me too, sometimes even I can't understand what they're on about:o

It's not a bad idea at all; there are jst a few things that had to be considered to work out whether it was a feasible idea.

To some extent I'd love a "young riders" place. I don't have a lot of riding confidence and sometimes it can be too imtimidating posting on the main sections. Even when I'm dying to post something I did (like getting the confidence to go out on a long canter hack by myself) I worry about posting in the main forum for fear of spamming...and partially for the fear of no one replying. However a young riders place would probably give me the confidence too.

Then on the other hand, I like reading all the adult posts (ok so nothing to stop us doing that with another section) but I also think that the adults can give some useful advice.

NZdressage it wasn't a bad idea at all, if it went ahead I think it would get a lot of support, its just an idea that perhaps needs looking at by the Mods very seriously before it would even be considered :D

No need to feel guilty at posting in there. I don't think that anyone on there wouldn't want good advice from anyone, no matter what their age.

I didn't used to go on Matures much even though I qualify but it's actually quite a friendly place with some really interesting topics.
