It Sometimes depends on experience and Qualification to get into a equine college, you could do an Apprentice (NVQ'S) if you don’t have any G.C.S.E's, if you have poor results in G.C.S.E’s however, you could still do something like a First Diploma in Horse Management, where you can do your stages, then go onto a National Diploma where you can further your stages, the college will usually pay for these as well for you, although it depends on the college. You can also do a working pupil position, www.yardandgroom.co.uk has working pupil vacancies. Where you work 5/5 ½ days a week sometimes live in position, you get training towards Bhs stages again here, and some businesses pay for these. Although you won't be paid largely here.

Do you have an idea of what you'd like to do with horses?

If you have more questions feel free to ask! :)

o.k so im new to this forum!! so be nice!! ive just left school but got too many options! I am deciding wether to go to riseholme uni for eventually an advanced national diploma in horse management or collage to do a advanced national certificate!! arrrgh! i can go to uni, but thers more people there and im not that confident in larger groups, or collage which is smaller but far away (i do get free transport) but please can anyone help me?? uni is 4 days a week collage is three, uni is alot more more but collage is more practical and is more besed on the experience rather than the qualification.... arrrrr!! lol ive got till september to decide! both places have accepted me!

okey doke, you CAN get away without GCSEs, though these days, you'll find it harder to work in horses without some, and if it came down to another candidate identical you but with GCSEs, they'd be picked. You can get jobs where you pick up the experience on the job, but these are often done on a work experience basis and aren't well paid in the least, if at all. I have to say, you need copious amounts of experience to get good equine jobs without any qualification, so follow Amba's great advice and go for the diplomas. Any thoughts on exactly what you want to get into???:) x

storm in a tea cup:

i'd go with the uni course, will stand you in better stead for the future, and you can get relevant experience in the 3 days p/w you're not at uni, which will make up for the experience you would've gotten at college. Trust me, more people means more scope for the best of friends, it'll be fine, I promise! :)

oh, and here's a tip, as you're new: you did hijack Jenni's thread, it was her question first, so the answers should really be towards her and not you. your question should have had its own thread, and answers directed towards you. like i said, you're new, i used to do it too! im not being mean, just letting you know :)
