At last it's friday and after 3 months & a broken back i had my first riding lesson today.
I rode gorgeous pepsi who was really well behaved - he isn't always - and it was fantastic!
I expected to walk and trot on the lunge and that would be enough. But.... I actually mounted easily, walked and trotted by myself (including lots of 20m circles!) and CANTERED! :D (on the lunge).
Heres the evidence:
(sorry about blurring of some pics, rotten camera)

and more....
last 2 pics of cait and streaky - showing how it's done.
the jump on the pic is about 2ft, instructor later built it up to full wall (which looks smaller on pics but was actually 2ft9). streaky cleared it with a whole ft to spare.. clever boy :)
(cait says: please ignore my looking down!! i know its terrible! OH AND look at the 2nd pic of my mum and pepsi cantering isnt it lovely)

Thanks everyone - it did feel so good - although I do have to admit to some stiffness, yesterday AND today!
Going again Tuesday - just another 20 minutes. And yes, I do hope to get back to the discussions on RWYM - although at the very early stages. Finding seatbones seemed to be quite hard on Friday - there seems a lot to plough through to get to them - thats what 3 months off does!
Again, many thanks everyone
Anne

well...............
I never thought it was going to be anything but a slog.
Bit more pain today; Pepsi just as well behaved. Lots more trot, and canter on the lunge again - managed to take my hand off the saddle.
P is slow at canter on the lunge (off the lunge he is a speedy so and so). But I think now is time to bit the bullet and next time canter off the lunge. Hand on pommel or not...
Instructor is really positive and I was pleased. But its not all positive all of the time. Sorry to be a bit depressed (I guess its the thought of work tomorrow and once again I am in the little flat, 200 miles from home...) but I am still sick and in denial that I broke my back practising a dressage test; and that my riding is - yet again - back at beginner level.
However - only one way to go now - ONWARDS (said in a wee small voice with wishful caps lock on)

Ok Pep talk coming....be warned...your riding is not back at beginners level because you still have the knowledge that was there before and nothing can take that away from you! The muscles are going to ache and everything is going to need restretching but it will come! It won't feel this way forever...chin up sweetie...you've done amazingly well already be proud of what you are achieving!
Lol and hugs

Good luck back at work!
I know it's hard I remember what it was like when I was off with the arthritis...especially as it's nothing they can see..if you were going back in your back brace it would be a whole different matter..but do remember to try and take it easy..I bought myself a chair wedge and that makes sitting a bit easier?
Now on to cheerier thought when are you riding again?
