Thanks to everyone who was so encouraging about weight issues and learning to ride. I peresvered and
...

I've just got back from my first private lesson :D at a lovely yard about 30 mins drive away. It was wonderful, the RI was lovely and gave me so much confidence and the horse was such a sweetie - she did what she was asked to do, more or less when I thought I'd asked her to do it...:)

(She didn't want to leave her nice warm stable to walk to the school though - it was raining and windy and cold. Can't say I blame her!)

We even managed a bit of trot - well the horse did, I was doing an impression of a sack of potatoes for everything except about 5 strides! Things can only get better. The OH asked if I was stiff when I go home, well, no, not particularly yet but wait til tomorrow.

Roll on the next lesson! Isn't riding fun?!:D

Yeay! Well done for not giving up - great news that you found an alternative.

That's it now then - you're hooked - welcome to the club... :)

Well done. Weight and riding shouldn't be an issue. I'm a heavier rider too and I use to feel stupid riding with these 100LBS people. If your fit enough to be able to get yourself on a horse and even attempt to ride, it means there is a horse out there for you. Good luck with your lessons!

Just remember, when you are in excruciating pain tomorrow doing a very good impression of John Wayne, that it is all worth it.....;) :D
