What is the difference between them? Should you wear them when doing different things or is it just preference? Thanks.

jods have a hem at the bottom, you wear them with short boots. Breeches on the other hand have a velcro fastening at the bottom of the legs and don't have that hem. Breeches are designed to sit nicely under long boots :)

And if you are short of leg like me then breeches are a better bet length wise than normal jods! I usually have reams of jod spare which can be a bit uncomfy under my long boots! Oh and breeches are usually a bit more expensive.

As far i'm aware I think it's because the velcro at the bottom makes the breeches less bulky so that long boots can fit over your legs easier.
I think.....
