Hi,
Has anyone experience of Thorowgood cob or wintec or anything else on a flat backed horse with foreward girth groove?
I have just tried a WoW for 6wks but try as she might, the fitter couldn't alter it to stop it lifting off his back
I am trying to find a saddle that has been built on a flatter tree rather than fitting him with another banana.
He is usually a wide fitting
Thanks. Any ideas welcome!!!

years ago i had a fieldhouse event saddle that had a very flat tree. it was too flat for my flat backed horse as she had a little bit or wither.
it was a long time ago, dont know what they are like now but may be worth a look

I'd PM Poohsmate if I were you. I think he's been there, seen it & got the t-shirt for just about any size & shape of horse. I had the opposite problem to you - pointy horse that needed to build up muscle - & he's sorted us a lovely saddle that can be adjusted as my horse changes shape. If I'd bought a 'normal' saddle I'd probably have had to get rid & buy a new one twice already!

My sister (Holly B) uses a Thorowgood T6 cob on her Fell, who has a flat back and low whithers. It is great for her! The only problem she has is it sliping forwards and thats due to Lisas shape, not the saddle. I would definately recomend it.

Duette saddles are made specifically for the super wide horse. I just bought one and I can vouch its a SUPER nice brand!

For our Ardenner I just gave up finding a saddle that fits and bought a western saddle. :o
It suited him really well and since I mainly only did hacking with him, it didn't really matter. But if you want to ride English, do Dressage or jumping, then it might not be an option for you..?
How is your boy anyway? Haven't seen posts from you in a long while. :)

Nina x I'm sure there would be a saddle that would fit! I wouldn't give up. There must be lots of people with a simular shaped horse that jump and do dressage. For Ardenner did you try he cob range in thorowgood?

Back then when I had this horse, there was no Thorowgoods (and don't think they would have fit him anyway, at least based on the ones I have seen), and this was in Finland and I went through the then selection of saddles available with no luck. ;)
I was perfectly happy with the western, so I was not bummed about having to use it. We had the Ardenner mainly for forest work so the saddle was not necessary, riding was just a way to keep him fit when there was no forest work available.
At the same time I had two other horses I was competing with, so had plenty horses to ride and they had proper English riding style treed saddles (that had an excellent fit! ;))
But thanks for your concern! :)
