One of my friends has a an elderly horse with COPD. He is managed on Coff-Less alone most of the time. During the Mayflower & rape flower season he has inhalers with a spacer device, start mid-April before its out and goes to mid-June usually. The homoeopathic remedies she uses with him are Rhus Tox 30c and Bryonia 6c. Had no coughing and snotty episodes at all this year.

I use www.crossgatesfarm.co.uk, they're really good about giving advice over the phone and will try to steer you in the right direction. I also like that the remedies are in a spray form (spray either onto the gums/tongue or onto a clean bottom) so they're quick and easy to give.
I used one of their pre-mixed mudfever remedies over the winter with good results as far as treating existing problems went. On their advice I'm continuing to use it in a smaller dose now as a means to boost her immunity to the bacteria that cause mudfever. My hope is that it will prevent her from getting it at all next winter.

I get all my remedies from www.helios.co.uk as I find it very quick and easy to place orders.
There are plenty of homeopathic books around, though sadly barely a handful are dedicated to horses. The original 'bible' has already been mentioned, The Treatment of Horses by Homeopathy by George Macleod (I think there is an updated version available now) and also try Homeopathy for Horses by Tim Couzens.....this one is surprisingly concise.
Treating the symptoms and animal 'individually', rather than treating the disease, is the key to success with homeopathy. Luckily for me, my Dad is a homeopath (I have been familiar with it virtually all my life).........though unfortunately he knows b*gger all about horses! :p

Hi all ,
I have now got myself a nice 15.3hh cob who at just 7 years old has COPD, He is living out 24/7 happily, but when he does have an attack we are treating with steriods and he has an inhaler. I was wondering if anyone has used natural remedies to try and help with the problem.. I put garlic in his feed but he wont eat it, so any suggestions would be great
Many thanks

You could try the link below. Their syrup and breathing powder has helped my big cob this summer - but, the powder is very spicy sort of, and has a strong smell and taste. My cob is OK with it in her feed, but she'll eat anything anyway - you can put any old medication in her feed and she'll eat it, but if you have a fussy feeder, you may need to ask them some advice about getting it into your horse.
