I have to get a new girth for Duch...
The one she has is lovely and padded and fits her well and is elasticated both ends.. (see my thread in general). But I have to return it to someone who loaned it to me. I'm not going to buy another crap girth, so I'd like to get either a leather girth thats elasticated at both ends, or a stubben cord girth. Any other suggestions?

I really like my stubben cord girths but i discovered these fantastic thorowgood girths last year, the airoform girths. I have one on my dressage saddle and it's superb. Tobs gets easily pinched and rubbed by girths but we've not had that with this one.

I'd go with a Stubben cord girth personally, I really like them :)

I have one of the older airoform girths but it is just elasticated at one end, and I'd prefer not to have that.... Are the ones in your link different? where's the elastic?

Thanks :).. I'll have to go home and measure the size of her old one now... I think I might just get the cord girth.

Dont buy a girth that is only elasticated at one end. It pulls the saddle down onto the back really unevenly and does no good for the horse.

I won't its either gonna be at both ends or none at all.
Unfortunately neither type are easy to get in this neck of the woods.... so its going to have to be bought on the internet.

Interesting thread.
I bought a Thorowgood girth for my girl, and it only has elastic on one end. I thought it was absolutely fine for her, but reading these threads and thinking about it some more makes me think that having the elastic on one end only is not such a good idea.
(Also, her saddle slips , which I think is due to her being a little rotund :o and also that I am now using a prolite pad)
I will be interested to find out what you end up getting fits. Do keep us posted.

I have this girth

http://www.saddleexchange.com/prod_accessories.shtml - it's the Native Pony Girth.
It is the nicest girth I have ever had my hands on, so soft, leather and elasticated at both ends. Took a while to arrive (blame Royal Mail!) but in the meantime I didn't see anything similar for under £100.

That girth is very swish... £65 though... I'd have to start saving up! Thats about 100 euro.... Very nice, I'd say it would last a long time.

I have a sabre kudos dressage girth. I love it and so does my instructor. I do pad it out with a prolite sleeve as well though as Star is thin skinned. x

I recently bought a treadstone (http://www.derbyhouse.co.uk/prodshow.asp?id=2009&cat=2&scats=49,96)girth off ebay (for £20 brand new too:D) and it's SOOOOOO nice! Elasticated at both ends and really nice padded leather.
How about these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Curved-Ergonomic-Leather-English-Girth-Elasticated_W0QQitemZ170117733594QQihZ007QQcategoryZ47277QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)?
I also have quite a few thorowgood girths but really dislike them as they only have elastic a both ends. Surely it wouldn't cost them a huge amount more to make ones with elastic at both ends?........must go email them...........

That's what I've wondered, but given most of the ones I found were £130, it must do!
It almost got to the point where I contacted a saddler that supplies where I used to work and had one custom made. I bet it would've been under £65, but not nearly as nice as the one I have now.

i do prefer the stubben cord girths, also the wintec elastic, both being reasonably priced.

The ergonomic girths look nice alright. I wont buy a girth with elastic on one side again either. I have vowed that everything horsey I buy from now on is very good quality and comfy for the horse.

I have a tack cupboard full of girths and various sleeves in my quest to find the perfect girth, the one I love is a curved girth from Kay Humphries, it has no elastic and is the most beautiful soft leather. It allows my saddle to sit in the right place and gives more room behind the elbows and my saddle doesn't slip no matter how roundy my horses belly becomes  Cost £80, but would have saved me a fortune if I'd tried it before I bought the other ones !
