Actually works ;)
I put my ASDA men's shirt in the wash with 3 cheapy yellow dusters, put on a 90 degrees wash and HEY PRESTO - one creamy/lemony show shirt. Cost me about £4, compared to the Caldene £29 one ;)
Oh, and I got my red/cream/bluey mix of silk show tie from 'Save the children' for a whopping £1 ;)
Bargainous!

does the colour fade again when you wash it? I was thinking about giving it a go after seeing it in a thread the other day.

I've not actually worn it yet ;) But, I'll give it a few tries in the wash and get back to you.
If the colour does fade, I've 7 dusters left over. Wycombe, home of cheap tat that runs easily ;) :p

Glad it worked for you.
Now I have a question.....
Being very new to all this showing lark ............. why does everyone want a cream shirt. Mine's white and I think it's OK.
What's wrong with white??
Do you think the EXPERIENCED people are laughing at me in my bright white shirt? lol ;)

Ahh I don't know, all these showy people on here told me too ;) I think it's cos cream is just 'softer' and white is quite a brash colour...is that a load of codswallop?
Ah well! But, my cream shirt, red tie, green tweed and canary jods combo looks sorta on the way to amateur show-er!

Bang on. ;)
White is very stark, and IMO only looks better than cream/yellow when worn with black jackets. I only wear white when using my black jacket, so that's basically for SJ and dressage, and if I wear my stock then I would've said it's slightly off white anyway.
It's a bit like beige jods, provided the right shade of canary is bought for the combination, the canary presents a better picture. We're not talking banana legs, just not as bland.

Our MFH used to swear by putting white jodhs in the wash with a pair if brown tights, she was given some white ones and wanted to tone them down, It worked like a charm.

Frances gets quite upset at my Canary breechs, she says I look like a rubber chicken in them!

Boyfriend says I look like a banana. Although admittedly my tie, shirt and jods are all yellow based! Not to mention the waistcoat (but I'm not wearing that atm). I just haven't gotten round to a cream shirt yet. Still, I think it looks fine when the jacket is on top. ;)

Do you think the 'yellow duster trick' would work on dull beige jods? I can't really afford to buy any new jods atm, but I do have a pair of jods which are a beigey colour, a bit nonedescript, but I was wondering if the trick would work to brighten them up?
If not, I'll ebay some, cos tbh, those beigy jods are HUGE!

Oh, I wear a white shirt with my tweed.
Mmmmmm maybe I should try the yellow duster trick, although it goes against everything I was taught about separating whites and colours.

I have the opposite problem, I was told to separate whites and colours but I never do coz I'm too lazy to do 2 washes. My clothes NEVER run though! My knickers and bras stay nice and white, so I'm not sure the yellow duster trick would work for me! It's like the "never put things in the tumbledryer that it says no to on the label coz they'll shrink". They never do for me! I remember my housemate a few years ago as well trying to shrink a T-shirt coz it was too big, and he put it in an industrial tumbledryer at the hottest heat for 45 minutes and it didn't shrink!
So I'll try the yellow duster trick, but I'm not convinced it's going to work for me!

It depends on the temperature of wash you use. I usually put my whites and coloureds on 30/40 and they never run, but this was on a 90 degree wash so the colours ran.

I will have to try this! I have loads of dusters - not washed yet - and will be scouring car boots for a second hand cheap white shirt for daughter so this could be a real bargain - I think cream will look better with her tweed jacket - what a great tip! thanks
