View Full Version : Using schooling whip properly

Another one of my issues ( I seem to have so many) is that I am very clumsy at using a schooling whip. This is because I am used to using a crop so I'm not very good at keeping my hand on the reins and using it. This means when I use it, I give the unfortunate animal a yank in the mouth which obviously has the opposite effect than the desired one of going forwards. How can I use the whip without pulling on the horse's mouth?

I think you have to open the rein away from the next and flick with the schooling whip. Its hard to describe, and I am pretty clumsy with them...
