Just wondering:

What do you wear riding? - Basically i've recently started riding again and have yet to see another bloke on a horse! Just wondering what other guys wear riding (English style), with the exception of my body protector I'm kittless! In particular I badly need some boots!

If any of you have husbands/boyfriends/secret lovers that ride then pleasechip in!!!

A better question to ask the ladies on here is this "What sort of riding kit makes a bloke look well on a horse, and off it?"

My husband wears... whatever he finds in the heap next to his bed, honestly, sometimes it is as if he got dressed in the dark! That is not the sort of answer you are looking for!

Anyway, this is my oppinion....

DON'T WEAR JODS ! All men look awful in them! Breeches with some nice long boots or short boots and chaps are good.

Acording to my husband, breeches are a dodgy subjuct in themselvs... you aparenty have to try on many styles to find the right ones. Some of them are very uncomfortable for blokes 'parts' so I am told. Also avoid breeches with "groinal focus" My husband has just told me that! Sheesh, the things you learn! He has elaborated to say that some cuts of breeches are best avoided unless you are very well endowed, and wan't everyone to know it!

Also, the correct undies are VITAL! My OH has just said that you will know which are the correct undies only when you have worn incorrect ones...

For the top half something like a rugger/sailing or polo shirt is good. My husband prefers to wear a long top that covers the bum when he is off the horse. This goes back to the "goinal focus" problem.

He has just said that the "Broke Back Mountain" look is not a good one either! Leave that to your imagination!

For formal occasions go for the "Mr Darcy" look and all will be well. My husband has just said that if you always go for classic, understated, traditional colours and designs you can't go wrong.

In my oppinion, men look very fetching in classic riding clothes:D so long as everything fits properly! This is where my husband comes unstuck, he had his hunt coat made for his 21st. nearly 20 years later he has the same coat and the buttons come under more strain each season! For this same reason you see men riding looking almost indecent. Their OH's vanish away the offending garments or they are 'ruined' in the wash!

To avoid sartorial pit falls, take your OH shopping with you. IMHO this goes for all bloke clothes shopping (My OH is nodding in agreement! )

Wear the 'modern' type riding gear that will flatter the male 'figure' and act as 'eye candy' to us females!!!

Just rolling about laughing at alfie's slave post.
Hilarious!
It also depends how much riding you are likely to be doing, and whether you want to do shows etc as it is a few £ - the chap in our lessons wears jeans which although are not ideal, work for him.
You could also get your hands on some of the catalogues for riding gear which come every so often with the horsey mags.
Or you can have a trawl on the net.
Best advice as above - get a "birds eye" view ;)

My OH has his own horse - and he has (almost) as big a horse wear wardrobe as me now! He rides mainly in Hac tac denim jods and either black Mountain HOrse High Riders, or if he's being posh his SC3 Mountain Horse jod boots with his fancy gaiters!!! He also has numerous polo shirts (various makes) and in winter wears a Mountain Horse protective coat (the one with the elbow and shoulder pads). He has tons of fleeces too (more than me I think). He's got long legs so looks great in beige jods too - the only major no-no he says is breeches / jods with short boots. NEVER wear that one..........

I'm a boy and when I started riding again I had a brief period insisting wild horses would never get me to wear jodhs. My horsey sister in law bought me some for christmas as a joke (I think) but after a moment of trepidation I tried them and have never looked back. Tracky bottoms and most jeans are hopeless in comparison to purpose made gear, but be ready to come to terms with new and alien concepts like VPL :D

I'm a bloke so felt compelled to read this!

I am unashamed to say I wear breeches. Furthermore (gasp in horror) I refuse to wear pleated ones. They remind me of 1980's new-romantics. Plus I just don't see the point of them. I find the unpleated ones more comfortable. Don't get me wrong though, I don't strut around in an immodest manner, hands on hips saying; "look at me"! I know for female riders jods come in so many designs and colours they are a fashion statement but for us blokes they are just a practical item of sporting apparel and there to do a job! Imagine cyclists in 'pleated' lycra shorts...Um, on second thoughts, don't.

ROFLOL! The best thread!!! Just what I needed to liven up a boring lunchtime in front of the PC! :D

Cant add very much else really - I keep laughing and imaging the 'broke back mountain' scenario - I havent seen the film but can imagine the scene!:D *

Disclaimer:
* ALtho I realise that riding attire for men is a very serious problem and I in no way mean to offend by demeaning the subject *creep* but ROFLOL!!!!;)

My BF rides regularly and he has some jods which are sort of stretchy denim, so look like jeans, however, he looks equally good in dark coloured jods. NOT PLEATS PLEASE! UGH!

He wears lace-up short boots (Equitector climate control - makes em sound like a car) and gaiters.

But he doesn't compete - I hate to think what he'd look like in cream/beige jods:eek:

My OH had his 1st ever riding lesson today :D
but even as we were leaving I got told "you are still not getting me to wear tights!"
heehee
I got his boots out my friends catalogue? just normal stable boots? for about £15, they are comfy (OH says) and look "rugged" enough apparently ;)
