View Full Version : Rode a tiny bit, puzzled and any ideas?

Major league pushed it yesterday and rode a tiny bit. But this time I used
my most favorite Treeless saddle and which is the best fitting saddle
for Dyfra. Before the accident I thought this was the most comfortable
saddle in the world.
Lets just say,, I hurt more in a saddle, than riding bareback. Guess
with the broken back..something has changed..or the other damage. Not
sure what is going on since this is the first time I have been this
badly hurt. Was really suprised because I loved this saddle before.
Bareback did not bother me near as much. Of course..even with a
treeless saddle..getting on and off her...lets just say is not pretty
or easy, saddle made it harder.
I have a flex panel saddle I will try next time. But this one.. I have
to wait for someone to put the saddle on her. Did not want to put my
feet in stirrups yet,, afraid of what the pressure would do to my
hips.

Guess I have to experiment. If this one does not work out..not sure
what I can do? Bareback out of the round pen..even in the 2 acre night
pasture is not a good idea right now. Balance is just not there.
Need to sell a saddle or two..or a horse before I can go saddle shopping again.
And to go saddle shopping again.. I have to be in better shape,, so I
can try the saddle properly. Bother.......

Boy..when I mess myself up.. I sure go whole hog. Sigh ~~~
I know I am pushing very hard to try riding again. My balance isn't
great..body doesn't want to work right.. I know I have a long way to
go.

Thank goodness.. I have Dyfra so well trained and she is so light to
get to move around and she rememebers every bit of training. Direct
rein,,or neck rein..just need a light touch.. voice commands... takes
a load off ..at least I do not have to worry about that part.

So for those of you that have gone through this before...would love to
hear advise from you.
How did you manage?.. Did you have to change your saddle requirements and so on?

I don't know the detail of your situation, but I do know your hips and the thighs sit differently bareback than in a saddle... in fact the riding position is (and should be) different.

hello Shari

Great to hear you are back in the saddle. Seems to be coming to most of us.

Unfortunately I can't help on the saddle front. Just that the RS horses (well, ponies) that I ride have dreadful dreadful saddles and it can be a bit offputting.

I am short, so have to ride the ponies.... and their saddles are made for 7 year olds who are at least half my weight.

This used to be only a mild problem but with the (recovering) broken back it is becoming quite a problem....

Thanks everyone that responded. I know I was asking hard to answer questions.

I have no riding form yet...just kind'a sit the best I can without causing myself too much pain.
Treeless saddle..before anyway..sat on them the same way I sat bareback.

Maybe I will have to find a treed saddle. Of course everything that looks comfy to me..costs tons of money. Sigh ~~
And finding one for a wide, short backed, round, no withered Icelandic...:p and the seat being comfy for me..and with mega big thigh/knee rolls that are on the outside of the flap....

Will try something tomorrow..if that doesn't work.. not sure what I will do?

Have two saddles for sale now..but all I seem to get are people that want to try it for free, and me pay for shipping..etc..etc.. you know the type..that want a free saddle.

I agree broken backs are no fun.
