I love jumping loads but because of the facilities at my yard never get to do it. One of the owners at the yard has some poles but due to Willow not really getting the chance to jump, I didn't really want to use them incase I broke them! However out hacking I found logs and benchs to jump other and Willow is doing brilliant! I asked the woman if I can borrow her poles ( she rarely uses them :p ) and my mum says she will buy me some storage boxes so I can begin training to jump Willow properly again! I just hope she won't go to loopy as I will be doing it in her feild so its a bit open! My friend has offered to help and I can't wait! What are the best show jumps to start with?

Poles, raised poles, cavaletti and cross poles.:)
Start slowly, wait till shes confident and then push her a bit more every time.:)
Good luck:D

Don't worry about it.:)

Pretty self explanatory, its an affixed pole on a cross, so can set in 4 different positions.:)
You can make them yourself, there should be a thread on here, where I quoted a book on how to make it, do a search using the search function. :)

Thanks for showing me what they are, I can't find the thread do you know how long ago it was roughly? I started looking but I seem to be getting quite a bit back, if you could tell me roughly when it was it will help loads! :p

:D Making your own could be mega fun, you never know, you can personalize them yourself and everything!

I think its Galadriel who has a site about saddle fitting and such, she also has a section about making jump wings. If someone could find the link that would be great for you:)

Your jumps don't even have to be made, it might be something you already own, cones, boxes, paint tubs, barrels. And you could go to your local timber yard for poles and see if they are cheaper than on the net/tack shop.

Even if you have to buy your poles, if you made the wings/found something to support them its still cheaper.:)
