Hi all, some of you will know me ;).
I've recently started jumping.. can't quite believe i'm typing this! lol
I'm 35 so a little more mature than most.. and praying i don't have brittle bones when i fall! ;) :p

Seriously, I'm after a bit of advice.

I'm no longer a beginner jumper apparantly.. not sure how I managed to fool them into thinking that! :p Have jumped up to 2 foot (huge to me..) straight jumps - what are these called.. err i've forgotten! lol

So.. today I jumped a cob i've never riden before, and jumped him over a 4 jump, but 6 jump course if that makes sense..:o not sure how you phrase that sort of thing.. all cross poles today so nothing too hard. We were working on thinking ahead for next jump, which i don't struggle with too much generally.

I did wonder what you do when jumping a new horse, any tips gratefully received.
First time round - in trot he felt very racey compared to my usual steeds - and it un-nerved me a bit. Usually I'm up for cantering the next rounds, but I trotted all but some of the final round - some what suprising my instructor i think.

I have booked next weeks riding lesson on the same cob so that perhaps next time we jump I'll be a little more settled to his pace and generally being a bit more forward going.

Thanks again for any advice, sorry no pics or vid, no one there supporting my achievements!

sounds great :)

Jumping a new horse you just have to go for it really, theres no real way to tell without having a bash at it! some horses really need riding in and some are 'point and shoot', often you'll be able to tell from riding on the flat, fizzy 'go go go' horses arnt usually 'ride them in' horses and vice versa.

have FUN next week!

2ft!! You're a braver woman than me. I only did two foot once and that was last year when I entered a jumping class at a show (yes a moment of PURE madness - it's my age :p ) - it turns out Cherry LOVES jumping and became a thing possessed in the ring.... flying over everything - until we reached the wall - ahh... Cherry and I don't do walls....

We were eliminated :o BUT they seemed HOOOGE, them there fences!!!

WE WANT PHOTOS!!!!!!! ;)

hmm.. he was definately a point and shoot kinda boy lol. and very keen to canter from the start, i had to really hold him back (which he realised I COULD do). lol sadly forgot my gloves and given the heat ended up with a blister by my wedding ring! lol

I guess as you say, it's a case of going with it, the usual mare I ride has to be woken up constantly, and I think I may have settled into knowing this. she's ok in transitions, but if asking to jump and she's not 'switched on' she'll run out, or stop.

Glad there is no indication i was doing wrong. ;)

Jane - you and chez are superstars for jumping at a show, our local show starts at 2'3". I think the excitment and nerves would be my downfall! literally! ;) :p

Will see if someone is kind enough to take pics one day, but err they'll be terrible! lol
