I have been trying to sell the mare I came off of. (Royally bred Orri Granddaughter Icelandic)
Have so much money into her...I can't really lower her price.
She is not a mean horse, she loves people and the trainer barn she is at right now.. they have not had any problems riding her. So she has no issues with that.
My biggest worry,,is I am scared of her now and I really don't want her coming home. Biggest fear is getting hurt again.
Leasing is not possible..have had really bad experiances with that in the past, even with iron clad paperwork..and I can't afford to board her at the trainers any more.
She is being bred to the 1st prize yellow dun stallion now.
Wish I could find a trade.. say with someone that has grown out of their easy high mileage older gaited horse.. or even a cart trained mini..or even a cart.. Fair value trade of course.
No such luck.
Feel so stupid for feeling this way..but I just can't help it....

Sharin, i have sat at this computer and typed several different replys, all saying the same thing, but none of them seem to sound right.
If the thought of her coming home is going to make you feel bad, perhaps you are better to take a loss on her sale and put yourself first.
It is important for your healing process to be positive and surround yourself with things/people that make you feel good.
None of us can know how this little mare makes you feel. It is easy to say, dont blame her for what happened.
Let us know how things go, big strong hugs and a pinch of pixie dust to you :)

I have to agree with lor. When you add up what you will spend on her while you're trying to get the price that you want you may as well have lowered her price to start with.
If you're dreading her coming home then it may be time to cut your losses and move on.
It's not an easy decision no matter what the circumstances so good luck with whatever you do x

I know... is just right now as the market is very slow. I do not know if lowering her price is going to help?
I see a lot of Icelandic's or other horses in general...sitting for sale for a long time. Only thing that is selling right now is high mileage been there done that beginner horses.
She is green and not a beginner horse. She is not mean just has a lot of engery.
And sales of Icelandic's have never been smoking in this country. Where everyone one thinks bigger is better.
I know she did not mean it..and it wasn't all her fault..know that in my mind. But my heart and panic button isn't listening.
Nor can my body at this point take a chance of getting hurt again.
I guess I could try.. keeping price the same but putting X price..or best offer?

ShariN, have you considered contacting a few icelandic people? I'm not sure what country you're in (sorry!) but have you tried contacting a few of your top riders? The UK have about 4 obvious names who are the top of the UK Icelandic world. I know they are often on the look out for something nice, with good breeding, but something they can train up and put their input into.
Just a thought.

Yes, I am on the Icelandic horse lists and everyone knows she is for sale.
I would prefer to sell her out right as I need the money.
But there might be an option..for trading her for another Icelandic..also green broke. She is supposed to be sweet and not as goey. I would prefer to have an older horse in a trade but will see what happens.
Doubt I would ride any other horse but Dyfra for a long while anyway.

Can't really add much more than has already been said: If you can't afford to lower her price, how can you afford to put more money into her.
And as far as horses that anybody can ride selling quicker than green horses that need an experienced rider... is that really a phase/slow current market? It seems to me that the easy horses have always (and will always be) the ones to sell faster and at a higher price.
I am not trying to talk you down on the price - just trying to get you to think about your own reasoning and how likely it will be that a) you will get a return on your investment if you sink more money into this and b) the market turns around and suddenly green horses are in high demand and fetch top dollar.
If you want to hang on to her, have you thought of having someone work with you -rather than just her? If you could regain your confidence with her she might well still turn out to be the horse you wanted in the first place. Maybe you need to give yourself another chance! ;)

At this point...with the damage I have..no way I would ever get on her again. Will be years before I will be fully healed if ever. I just can't take the chance I getting hurt like that again.
Even lowering her price I doubt she would sell.
A Good intermediate rider could handle her. She is goey but not so hyper that she will not listen to the rider, green of course but all horses have to start some where.
I have a couple of more weeks before I have to bring her home..and or deside. I just hope a good home will be found for her.

Things will pan out for you SharIN.
You're already feeling low due to your accident and then the worry of having her back and seeing her is probably sending your head into a spin as you havent got over your nerves (Im guessing of course).
I agree that you should probably try to overcome your (logical) fear of her.
Ive only just started riding after 18 months of being gripped with fear after an accident where I fractured m shoulder, but it can be done....:)
Maybe if she does come back, you could get someone to ride her while she is with you? That way you could see her progress and stay in control of her welfare. That way she wont be so green and her price could go up??
Sorry if everything Ive said seems obvious and you've already thought/looked into it - Ive been on here since 5.30am as I couldnt sleep!
Good luck tho.:)
