I have been driving my mini mare Maggie a number of years. Hope to get back to driving soon.
If you want to find others to drive with..might check out a Driving club near you..or if there is a National Driving society..both would be a good place to start.
http://www.britishdrivingsociety.co.uk/

I drive in the Pacific North west...mostly on the cart paths my husband as made on our property. At some point will be able to go to the VSE shows.

Right now I drive a Country road cart..sometimes use the wooden wheels, other times the air tires. Is very well sprung and comfy.
Pictures are of a couple of years ago..some fuzzy winter pictures with just her head clipped and other summer pictures.

I drive sion my welsh cob in a zilco tedex harness most of the time.So easy to use and clean after having a leather one for years.I have a bennington which i use regularly for road work, forest tracks and schooling on the field.I have a liverpool gig for special occasions which i had for my 40th.I went on a bds training course this year which found very useful and i met some really nice people.

How do you guys cope in traffic? I know theres plenty of laws on lights at night and that type of thing but how do you find the car people?

For Driving a mini horse in cart... I sometimes would drive on our country road..is pretty quiet here.
But any other kind of road it is just not safe. No one would pay attention to something so small.
Even with the required triangle on the back...and orange bicycle flags on the cart..people in the US just don't care and have no respect with horses or horses in cart. Even when the DMV book says horses still have right away.
So it is way too dangerous to drive on normal roads, no matter how good your horse is.

Hopefully it is better across the pond.

Denbenj, Thank you...it really is a comfy cart.

Love your new cart, very handsome! Sure you will have many years of fun driving it.:D

Other than the "freedom" collar, the rest of my harness is Zilco. It sure is easy care.
Though I have to admit.. I would love to get a full Camptown harness. They are building some excellent harnesses for the very small equine.

I only drive when its light.I have had the odd problem car driver but i have much more respect when i am in a carriage rather than riding because i take up as much room as a car.A lot of people slow down because they like to see the horse and carriage and it makes the smile.:D

Blue and I are Happy Hackers too (We go places other carts can't reach:cool:) Traffic isn't too bad as she can cope with it and we can always pop into the verge a bit also they can see my yellow safety jacket just as if I was riding.
Motor cyclists are the best ordainary cyclists are the worst (Never speak, silently rush up besides you and past without even a wave, thankyou or warning.

I drive my cob Pinnochio. We have a bellcrown four wheel carriage. Ive not been out to much latly due to personal problems, I dont feel my mind would be up to the road work, but Im getting there! Ive got on order 2-3 weeks to go, a two wheel ecercise cart being made to measure that hopefully I can use in the sand school.

Questy my fjord is off to be trained under harness in August and he will use Pinnochios carriages. I just cant wait.

Dani my spotted pony is also broken to drive, but "pikey" broke( fair word in the situation). Due to wolf tooth problems causing some behavioural issues and his early learning, hes been turned away a while. Teeth tomorrow then back into work.

I drive Erry my Highland mare. We have a Bellcrown two wheeler though I would love a Bennington Buccaneer and I'm looking for one.
She is great in the traffic and drives better than she rides.
I intend having some lessons this year as I've so far only managed friends helping here and there. Good job my pony knows what she is doing.

Exactly. We usually get waves and smiles, and just the odd driver who whizzes past regardless.

And try it with a donkey - everybody slows down in amazement and awe - well, most people.

The car drivers have to stop and give way here, the road is only as wide as two ponies backsides! and I'm not going to back up to a passing place, once the pones are biting the bonnet of the car they generally get the message and go back to a passing place! ;)

I remember holidays with my cousins in Devon. They had a Donkey cart and the lanes could be very narrow with steep banks.I had a lovely smug feeling one day when a Rolls Royce was forced to crawl along behind us for over a mile till we could find a passing place to tuck into:D
Miriam--was there a secret agenda to your YO running over your cart?;)

Heading off in to the sunset!

I rarely drive on the roads these days. We have miles of cart tracks round here so we don't have to!

This is the other week when my baby Clydesdale was put to for the first time.
