Went to a "first steps in jumping clinic" today. Had been really looking forward to it as a way of increasing my confidence with the aim of doing a cross pole type competition this summer. was expecting other slightly nervous mature ladies to be there but instead 2 teenagers (lovely teenagers!) on their horses bought to event-Aargh! Robbie had the wind up his bum for some reason and was being really strong the minute he saw a pole, we progressed from 3 trotting poles to 3 trotting pole and the highest cross pole I have ever jumped, having done that at a gallop several times I chickened out. I explained to the instructor that I had come to gain confidence and since I had now lost any confidence I had had previously, though it best if I stopped, and I left :o Very very embarrasing .
So having never really left, can I come back please :)

Sorry to hear you had a day that felt so bad - there's nothing like confident teenagers to make one feel inadequate! ;) HOWEVER, reading the bit of your post that I have quoted above, it could be interpreted that you achieved rather a lot today!! I hope this doesn't sound patronising - it is certainly not meant to be - but when I have NN moments, someone else describing what went on often makes me see it in a different, more positive light.

By all means come back into the warm bosom of the Nervous Nellies club but I also think you should be proud of what you did today... perhaps you didn't 'chicken out' but 'retired early, triumphant!' :)

Definately not a chicken to me!! Well done for having a go!

Im afraid I shall always have to endure the likes of a competent 5 yr old acheiving more than I can!!! Sad but true.

Us nervous nellies need to stick together in times of great stress/embarressment!!!:D

I agree with virago. Well put :D
Sounds like you did great and at least doing it in gallop means less time to worry cos its over in a flash!!!

Well done, you went out there and had a go :D To stop when you are ahead is not a deafeat, you should be very proud ;)

I have a jumping lesson with my friends 12 yr olds !!! Boy do they make me look stupid !! But sometimes I need a little bit of compitition to push me out of my comfort zone .This last week I lost my MoJo..... so back to flatwork for me :o

Good luck next time, when it will be 3 poles then an upright ;) One step at a time..
