We are holding a show cross event at our yard in a few weeks.
Can anyone tell me anything about it?
I'm just starting out in jumping with Logic and am wondering if I should enter the novice showcross or showjumping??
Is showjumping more technically demanding? I would have thought so, but as I'm lacking in knowledge about all things jumping I might be wrong?

Sorry not sure what it is. I know jump cross is XC without the fixed jumped but I cant imagine how that crosses over into SJ!
Sorry not very helpful eh?

Not sure if this is this or not, but are you talking about indoor cross country?

I thought show cross was the same as jump cross, a course of sj then a xc course, no dressage. How fabulous is that!! I've done a couple & the rules vary, in one we had to go straight from the sj to the xc - jump out the sj arena & on your way! There are others where you just do the two separately. I don't think there are any hard & fast rules, different places run it their own way.

erm.... no :) They are running a competition at my yard and we don't have an indoor school so it can't be. I wonder if I've got the name wrong.
I think it's a competition like cross country but using showjumps - might have got the name of it wrong  :D
I'll have to check with the yard staff next time I see them (I'm always there late after everyone has gone home).
I was wondering if the jumps were spaced out more as in XC they might be technically easier to jump for a novice horse/rider, because I don't think I could remember the route on a SJ course having never done it before.
We don't have many practice jumps so I normally only put up a small x pole and a small straight in the school - we never get to practice a course.
Anyhow - thanks for trying!! ;)

Rarah! Def sounds like jump cross - cross country with showjumps.
Sounds great fun bit like all jumping its still a challenge but at least without the additonal worry or scary solid fences! :)

To be it sounds like something similar to what we did a couple of months ago, its like a showjumping course, however, they are replaced to look like xc jumps. Water jumps, logs, trees, bushes e.c.t.
To be honest the course is exactly set up in the same way as SJ, NOT set up far apart, we had 12 fences in a 40x60 areana, a double combination in a corner - very difficult, a big large spread obviously smaller for novice people e.c.t.
It is fun, but quite a few horses find it quite daunting, i would do for novice/clear round jumping if the horse has not jumped alot, but its up to you. :)
Good luck

you mean jumpcross? that is knock down xc over rustic showjump-like fences. although our local jumpcross centre has their course over xc terrain, not in a school. think the lowest grade is about 2ft/2ft3 in heigt, up to 3ft6 for the largest class.

I thought show cross was different to jump cross. Jump cross is like cross country i.e. galloping across fields etc. but the jumps are replaced with SJ type jumps. I though SHOW cross was simply like eventing but without the dressage- you do XC over an XC course then a SJ round and the scores are added? That's what I always believed anyway!

I've googled showcross to see if I could find out more- there's some results from somewhere here and they seem to have done a normal XC course and then a normal SJ course? ETA: Actually, might be the other way round...

And also sounds like it here http://www.newrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89395
Though I have also heard of 'arena showcross' which I think is a kinda XC course build in the arena, rustic jumps, mobile XC fences etc, then they are moved and a SJ course is built.
