check this out! my first ever jump! i originally thought i'd just be tanking around a field again today (seeing as every time it's sunny i get to tank it around fields...yay!) but RI sneakily popped a couple of jumps in! to tell you the truth, i silently freaked out at this thought, but i thought 'now or never' and just did it!
so, here are the pics! critique's welcome, and i'm aware that on one pic my foot is COMPLETELY out of the stirrup, but i'm just basking in the glory of me getting over a jump for the first time!

Grief, in that last photo your position is perfect, and this was your first ever jumping session.

Wow, I am so jealous.

hey well done!! They are decent sized jumps for your first jumps too! I'd be pooping my pants jumping those and I've been jumping for the past 9 months! (well, jumping again as I used to jump when I was little!)

round of applause for you... and I think I might have to go pop a few of the smaller jumps on the xc at my yard!

thanks everyone!!!
when my RI said that we were going to be jumping i was like 'oh no!'
i didn't really feel comfortable or competent enough to be jumping, and we'd only gone through the jump position once, and that was weeks ago!
i do like a challenge though, and this overrode the fear...it was weird because the actual run-up (in canter!!!) to the jump seemed to take forever, and it's a good thing my RI was counting me in because i would have gone into position WAAAAY before the actual jump. but actually going over the jump seemed to be over in nanoseconds (possibly because it was!) i'd expected to feel like i'd left all of my internal organs on the other side of the fence, but it didn't feel like that at all! it felt wonderful!
obviously that was it then...i couldn't be stopped! i did 6 more jumps (the same 2, just over and over!)
i feel like i've gone over a real hurdle (metaphorically and physically lol!) after seeming like i'd just hit a wall!
looking forward to reading more of your comments...keep 'em coming!
somh!

That is the first time you've jumped? I think you look super. And that jump is scary! The first time I jumped it was a crosspole about 5 inches off the ground;) and I didn't look half as good as that.

well done you :)

Ah, well done Sockonmyhead isn't it fun? I've done small jumps nothing that high, but it's still fun. Don't really think I have the nerves yet for jumping 2' yet. I'll echo every one else that last piccie you've got an excellent position, must have gotten a good position in flatwork, to do that. Well done.

Wow, well done for your first jumps! Especially over x country ones, it took me a few weeks to feel confident jumping one of those!

just 2 small critiques although most likely they will come with time;

1. you had great position in your pictures, although your feet and lower legs seemed to be coming a little forward, but that can be expected for your first time.

2. you will need to learn to give a little bit more with your reins over the jumps, although only a little bit.

apart from that, well done and I hope you keep improving!!:)

Your horse took good care of you. ;) Don't worry, jumping gets easier with time. You're right, your first jumping position was atrocious, heehee, but like many others have said, the position on your last one was very very good for your first time jumping. :D Just remember, heels down, and shoulders over knees, and sit up on the landing. That's pretty much all you have to worry about with you right now. You're doing fantastic!!:) Keep it up!!

Well done you! You are progressing so quickly and fancy doing your first jump at canter, out in a field and a cross country one at that!You must of been buzzing for days! You are lucky to have a RS that takes you out in the paddock my lessons are confined to the arena.My only jumping was over a month ago and that was only at trot.

How often do you get to ride?

sockonmyhead

kiwigirl;
i normally ride once a week but now that i'm off uni i need more stuff to do, and more stuff to spend my money on, so i might start riding twice a week (half hour private lessons!)
yeah it was great!!! it was more a sense of accomplishment that i felt! i expected it to feel really weird but it didn't at all!!!
