I love her! Bless her cottons, she'd do anything to get me over a jump.
I had my last exam today (THREE hours long! If i ever meet an ancient egyptian i shall give em a good kick up the wotsit for having so many gods and religious traditions) so decided to celebrate with my first real jumping session since November, ive played with her over some fences since then but not schooled her over them. Bea warmed her up as usual and she was in a mad mood too...

^^ Thats the biggest Curly has jumped since November and the biggest Bea has ever jumped. I was really proud of her, six months ago she was nervous of cantering and jumping a horse of curlys size and reputation!
I hopped on and had to go straight into the 3ft jumping - nice warm up for me! I havnt jumped in weeks.

^^my favorite of the day
so bea being bea whacked the fence up a hole - it looked MASSIVE to me cantering upto it since im so out of my rhythm with jumping. I got her in SO deep cos i was nervous and over-rode but she took a huge leap for me and got me over clear. I love her so much! I fully deserved to be dropped but no, she did it for me and i could feel her huge surge of effort - im so lucky to have her - the little horse with the big heart.

then Bea popped her over that and got overjumped abit and ended up with no stirrups, laid on her neck but she stayed on (bea has struggled with her balance in the past). So she had another go, did it well and we finished there on a good note with the orange hoss jumping out of her skin. She didnt falter, didnt look at anything, just flew.
She stayed so calm it was amazing! didnt canter until she was asked and then sprang straight into a canter - she has had issues with galloping at her fences and jumping flat but its taken a LONG time and many jumping lessons with trot poles before and after the jump and gridwork and its actually paid off. She was amazing and was so eager and willing. She loves her jumpies. When she sees the poles its like 'oo i can do this!'
After my pondering on her bit i just took the curb rein off and will get my uncle to chop off the shanks - she doesnt need the curb but even bea (who didnt like my pelham idea) admitted that shes so much better in it than her french linked snaffle.
Wow...long post!!

Well done.
Just a few comments, You seem to be getting a little in front of the horse. Try bending more in the middle and poking your bum out behind a bit more. Also keep you back straight.
All advise I get regularly so it's really a case of do as I say not as I do.

schooling over poles and little jumps always does wonders. and it really shows - her technique is brilliant. i admire the bravery of you riders who happily pop those jumps. i have jumped that high but i wouldn't make it a regular thing, nor would i just "bung it up a hole" well done both of you!

ahh she's a star bless her. I swear she grows an extra pair of legs to save me when i get into trouble. She'll go for me no matter how badly i ride in. it like 'no no no mum, just sit there. no, you dont have to kick me on im going to jump it anyway, dont worry'
A fellow livery has very kindly offered to take up up to the local XC course in July  :D we have been working on 'slow and steady wins the race' in preparation! she canters when shes told and not when she feels like it and comes straight back to trot about 5 strides out. Gridwork = Brilliant.
and today she was a star again, rode in the field with a friend and she didnt nap once (even when she left the field and curl was all alone!!!) and her gelding cantered past up (beautifully collected up and on the bit...hes a stunner) and she just kept walking along and didnt bolt after him.
She's going so well now and actually seems like she's enjoying everything we do, i think shes missed work - we've just pottered since november to get her back strong again and now Curly Wurl is really throwing herself into everything and causing havoc in the field (its by a hacking route and shes been galloping upto horses going past to say hello which makes them go loopy :o)

Hoe are you feeling about taking her out for a hack?? Everything seems to be going so well, she's enjoying herself and jumping out of her skin for you (brilliant pics! She really is a beauty:D- I love that first pic) Or are you just going to enjoy yourself with no stress at the minute? :)

The newest livery (who isnt at all phased by anything) has said she'll come for a walk out leading me on her 17.3 warmblood X (its the only horse ive ever met with a faster/longer walk than curlys - her gallop is sooo slow but in a walk race she'd win hooves down ;)) and he's a schoolmaster (and orange! i think hes a stunner) so i just have to wait for a day when she's down and i have someone on foot (just in case), strap on my BP and tabard and we shall see what happens.
shes v experienced aswell so will be able to help me rather than do what my last hacking buddy did 'OH MY GOD! RACH!!!! You could have been KILLED!!!!!' - very helpful
If it all goes wrong then tbh i might not push it anymore - she's being so chirpy atm and playing constantly in the field and i dont want to force her into doing something that she finds frightening for some reason.

That sounds excellent!! Really good plan and I do hope it goes well as then she'll be 100% perfect, instead of just 99.999999999999999999999999% ;):D

She always jumps with her ears back so Rach says- that's just her way :) She's looking really lovely technique-wise- much more rounded, accurate and collected. [[This is NOT critique- this is pointing out the realy good bits due to lots of hard work through grids etc.!!]]:D

she always has her ears back. we've been through this before. She has her ears flicked back most of the time cos im always chattering away to her and over jumps i go 'easy easy, take it steady, gooood girl, theres a girl' etc etc, she listens.
her backs fine, teeth are fine, happier with her new bit, farriers very impressed with the improvement in her contracted heels and her saddle fits. Its cost me alot of money, time and tears to put her right.
ahem.
and thank you sonnet. shes certainly more bouncy these days.
