There has been a destinct lack of pony people at the yard I'm on. There are a few adults who have ponies but they dont seem to have the same mentality as me (I'm reliving my youth through my pony! or rather living the childhood I wanted to have! lol!)

But recently the YO desided she wants to diversify and start up a riding school/trekking center. So they have bought/aquired there first two school ponies. An ickle wee shetland called cheeky (who they have bought) and a lovely 13.2hh connemara called Flint (who they have on full long term loan)

The best news is, that as they are increadably kind and nice YO's they are letting my ponyless best friend ride flint whenever she likes - for free!!! They even said to her "look, stop phoning me to ask if you can ride, he's your pony, ride him when you like" !!

So I have a new pony pal to hang out with at the yard!! And you should see our plans for the summer!! She's a novice rider, she can walk and trot and has cantered my boy a couple times but by the end of the summer she wants to be happy cantering flint out on hacks. She's not looking to be a brillient rider by the end of the summer, just to be riding competantly enought to feel safe cantering out on rides.

So far I've given her one lesson on Flint, and we've hacked out together three times. She's getting on really well with him, he's quite sharp and took the mick out of her a little on her first hack out with him, but I just told her what to do and he stopped. She's got lots of confidence so isnt bothered when he spooks or stops dead she just calls him rude names (in a nice way) and makes him walk on again.

But we are going to have such fun this summer - we will have picnic rides coming out our ears!! (and an adult pony/horse camp at the yard in july!)

It's going to be soooo much fun!!

here are a few photos for you...

aww hes lovely :)

i know what you mean about the lack of pony people who just have a pony for fun ie are not avid showing people who strap children on their ponies for the showing season etc.

Oh this is good to know, a new riding school opening! I'd seen an application on the Council website, and a couple of adverts for ponies suitable for a riding school so it's good to know. Do you know if they will be having any "heavyweight" cobs/shire X's? I walk in the Pentlands a lot and have noticed an increase in the horses in the fields at Kinleith Farm.

Anyway glad you have someone to hack out with, it makes it so much more fun! Hows Brandy Snap doing these days, he is such a sweetheart.

Bless you Hannah.
Mind you Im exactly the same, trying to relive my ponyless childhood and do fun/silly things with my ponies such as dressing them up, going for long rides with a picnic, splashing in the river, entering every handy pony/games class I can find and many more things. I love it

You'll have a brilliant summer!!!
