Are there any guidelines in regards to maximum temperature at which to store tack at? Treed saddles with beechwood trees and leather? Treeless saddle pads with foam inserts?
I have a tack room at the barn but it gets really hot (and humid - not dry) here during the summer and I am wondering if I should install Airconditioning in the tack room to keep my tack safe?

Hi,
I live in Florida. I put one of those things that suck the moisture out of the air in there. Be sure to check it often, because they do fill up quickly. I also have a fan that sucks the air out of my tackroom, and one that sucks it in. Seems to work for me.

The other stuff I am NOT using, I bring home, and put in the spare closet. Only for Mold reasons.

With this set up its not so bad, I have a bunny that lives in there, and he is quite comfortable. Though I will be bringing him home as it get hotter..

Good Luck,
Megan

Yes, we already have a dehumidifier in there and a fan but I was worried about the heat.
Oh by the way you can attach a hose to most dehumidifiers and simply let it drain to the outside rather than remembering to empty the tray. ;)

My tackroom doesn't get that hot, but it does het humid. It is made out of cement, and it keeps it pretty cool though out the day. Love the idea for the dehumidifier.. I am going to do that.. :)

I know that Memory foam should not get hot. A friend of mine had a memory foam saddle, and it took the shape of the saddle rack. Not sure if she had ever gotten it to go back to normal, or if she had to replace the panels. It could also get dried out, and loose its memory effect.

I would try and make sure that my leather doesn't get hot either, it can dry out, and crack too. Which is why I brought most of my stuff home for the summer.

I thought about putting an air conditioner in my tackroom, but just haven't gotten that far yet.

I am still spending all my money of finding the right saddle for my Boy:p I am close though!!

Good luck,
Megan

A friend had escewllent results from having a dehumidifier in her tack room.

Saddlery leather likes about 70 degrees, any hotter it needs to be kept well oiled. I tend to grease stuff that's in my dad's garage, as it is so dry in there.

My Side saddle is covered in Hoopers 1882 (Oopers Orrible) It's good stuff, made from curriery oils, the same as goes inot the leather in the first place.

Wally how about the tree and other components. Does the tree hurt the wood?
