Hi!
I was wondering if anyone else has used this method of "pulling"the mane.: You take a section about 1 inch wide, then comb up all the shorter hairs up to the root, you then rap all the remaining hairs in that section around the pulling comb then pull them out. Does anyone know wich method works best? I need answers ASAP as I have a show on May 20 at Old Orchrad Farm (is anyone else going?)
Thanks for ya help guys!

Thats the way i was taught to pull a mane.

It works and looks good but it takes ages! also you have to constantly go back and fix a stray hairs etc.

I have now given up and let my horses mane grow out until i could aford a solo comb.

Once I could afford it I cut his mane with a pair of scissors to about an inch below the length i wanted his mane. Then i used the solo comb.

It was excellent quick an easy to use but you have to keep going back to make sure you have managed to keep it all the same length! or maybe that was just me!

Good luck with the mane pulling and the show! :D

I generally use a solo comb and then pull as described. I actually need to do it at the moment, I just can't be bothered!

I also use the solo combs, they are really good, i was a bit worried at first because of the raxer and i didn't think it would come out very striaght, but i thort ow what the heck i will just go for it (i could of always hogged it!!) but it did tur out really good.

Good luck :)

a solo comb is like a comb with a razer in between the comb teeth. there is to layers of teeth so that the blade can sit in between. there is abutton on the back o the handle and once you have the bit of mane in your hand that you want to cut you press the button. the blade then comes down and cuts the mane. you can purchase them at most saddleries and of course on the mail order sites like Robinsons etc. I must admit my friend bought a horse solo comb for about £26.00 and looking at it there was only a slight difference in length between the horse version and the dog version so i bought the dog version! it only cost £11! and does the same job!
