Ok i fell off during my lesson this evening!!. Wasn't actually my fault i hasten to add - the horse just tripped and fell onto her knees and i tumbled off sideways. It would of been fine but i clonked my chin on the school fence and now have a little graze which is still smarting now! :(. My RI said it wasn't anything i did and i there was nothing i could of done to avoid falling. The horse was fine and the RI wasn't quite sure what had happened but put it down to the sand being deeper around one side of the school. Any hoo i got straight back on (RI made me mount from the ground as well!) and continued the lesson - even managing some better canter. I guess we all have to fall off sometime and in a way i'm glad i did as i know what it feels like now. ho hum!

Yeah tell me more too, you see when I had my first lesson, yikes my legs were killing me, lesson over I went o dismount, like you les said the better:D:D:D Hee Hee

Also had my first real fall 3 weeks ago doing the canter:D, got back on, from a box I am thankful to say:D and since then I am totally relaxed about my canter, the fall did wonders for me.

Mistertron, you will be fine, like you say it doesnt hurt as much as you think, so carry on riding with your heart contents.:D

Glad yours was much nicer then mine mistertron, and you have no fear to get over (I got back on straight away but was still afraid....)

Good on you Misterton. I remember my first fall, it was the first time I had ever gone up into the trot (silly me was just my [virtually] first ride) and Jack hadn't been ridden for over 1 1/2 years!! and he pig-rooted and I came flying up out of saddle and landed on the ground got uup and thought, Oh my I could get REALLY addicted to that. Isn't that FUNNY but it wasn't as bad as I thought, though I sure didn't get straight back on (I should have). The last time I fell off was at a canter Bareback and I don't really like riding bareback since then. It wasn't my fault like in your case, the horse tripped, and I slid off.

Strange question but do you feel better now you've had your first fall and survived (albeit with stingy chin!)? I'm still waiting for mine and I almost want to come off:eek: to get it over and done with!

Vonandiz - yeah your right! i think it makes you realise its not as scary as you think. I did land on the nice soft sand school so i guess that helped too!

In January my horse spooked at a car and I fell off and bruised my hip. I landed on ice. I could not walk for about a week. I have not been on her since. But I decided it would be a good idea to take riding lessons since I have no ridding experince. I have had 3 lessons and I am going to start on Dream on wendsday. I am so scared of falling off. But I have to get back on sometime.

Woah... way to go getting back on.;) My first fall...hm, oh, I was riding a friend's horse, Fury, bareback and he took off (at a trot, heehee) and I fell right on my butt on the rocks.:p My first actual riding in a saddle fall was when a horse bucked when he spooked from something (silly green horse) and whacked my horse, and he freaked, spun around, and I whirled out of my western saddle and once again, landed on my butt. :o

But, anyways... awesome job with your first fall!! Good thing you didn't hurt yourself.:)

My first fall was from a trot, didn't hurt nearly as bad as some of my later falls from a gallop. OUCH.

Well it was always going to happen at some point ;)
Sounds ouch with the chin though , otherwise all good on that nice sand (I know it well, I have visited a lot! ;) :o)
You did the right thing - straight back on!
Well done for that

I felt like that before I fell for the first time. In my case my fear of falling was much worse than actually falling.

Wow, sounds a pretty bad fall.

But, as you probably now know, after you've fallen once and been OK you suddenly lose most fear of taking a tumble :)

Went to look a new horse to purchase before xmas, lunged him for a little and then hopped on to try him out rode for a little while and then in a trot he reared fully and I found myself on the ground:confused: Being brave I hoped back on and continued to ride thinking something may have frightened him. The lady said he had never done that before so thinking it the one off I continued. He reared again this time I hit my head back on the ground as well so decided that horse was not for me or anyone in fact. Later on speaking to the owner she told me he had not been riden for over 5 months so there I was tring her new horse that she had only ever riden 2 times:mad:
Dont you think she should have told me....................why do people sometimes tell fibs when trying to sell a horse, and a bad one at that..

Obviously to just try and get rid of it. By then sounds of it they don't care who it hurts as long as it gets sold!

your so right, they just want to get there money back and arnt really to worried if someone get injured or losses money on a horse they then can not sell. I never did find out what happened to him, he was for sale on a site for quite sometime and she never wrote anything extra regarding his temperament prob or advise the lookers that he hadnt been worked for 6 months, makes me wonder how many other poor girls or ladies tried him out and came a cropper. Nice talking to you Tami and Floss

I think I was tempting fate with the above...

Came off today, completely my fault as I lost the plot when trotting poles and did everything I shouldn't have done:(. Managed to get back on and do it right a few times, then went shaky and felt sick. RI made me finish lesson (which I'm pleased she did). Back very achey now.:( Aaah well, it has taught me to keep my hands still!:)

Yes, I do feel better (bruised bottom aside - I can't sit down today:eek:) it wasn't as far,bad or hard as I had imagined it would be - I was sat on the floor plastered in grit laughing - I must have odd reflexes!:D

Snap!

I had my first fall on my first ever lesson  but that was all the horses in fronts fault cause he bucked for no reason and almost hit mine so his front legs went up i slipped and fell off onto my shoulder, graciously i might add! I held onto the reigns until i was near enough to the floor to control my fall (he wasn't a big un) i knew that if i held on longer id be scared he would fall and land on me! Sounds like i pulled a lot but i didn't honest! :p it was only a second! But even though i wanted to cry through just shock that i'd fallen off a horse for the first time in my life i go straight back on! :) Sure i had a very painful shoulder for the next few days but thats nothing painkillers can't cure!

That is true...when I fall 1st time...it was April 13 - Friday and I had already the feeling I will fell down. I had problems with him nearly the whole lesson, so we have decided to do a trail ride with a lesson for a while.
The horse got scared of the trash car ...he reared and started to run. I wasn't ready and fall on my lower back.. Nothing happened, but I think the fall was pretty strong and on one point...I got a "head shake" a bit....even later in the day.
Good think that I was aware of falling and even thinking when falling that I have to move away guickly from the horse.
But at the end....I was so proud that I have the 1st fall behind me.:)
