HI yep that's it. I got my first horse last Monday. That one that I told I was looking at, you all might not have seen that post so don't worry. His name is Blue. He is Quatrer Horse X Australian Stock Horse. He is Blue Roan, and dappled gray just on his belly (slightly, not overly obvious) both sides, and his head is Flea Bitten Grey, Dark grey mane, and Creamy coloured tail. He is very beautiful believe me, excellent conformation not perfect. 15 to 15.2 HH. He has HUGE feet put he doesn't pound in Trot or Canter. He is very quick on his feet can jump up into a Gallop Just by dropping his shoulder and turning! Yes very quick and does give you quite surprise. He engages his hindquarters AS SOON as you mount him. Its amazing it really can frighten you, when you first get on him. I have to use a running Martingale on him because he has quite the habit of puting his head high (so much he'd smash your nose :) ) and spinning. He is a horse that like to go go go. He'd never do goin' 'round and 'round a schooling arena. He's bred for Stock work, barrel Racing, Camp Drafting, etc.
Please Critique him. All critiques welcome. You couldn't be too harsh, it would be nice to know his flaws. Because I'm too inexperienced to see them.

Wow!
He looks like a very nice horse, no real faults that I can see, I feel for you trying to keep him clean when it gets muddy!
He is a nice stocky horse, and he has nice legs so hopefully you shouldnt have any injury troubles with him. .
Good luck and I hope you enjoy having him!!

Thanks for all your replies. Yes he is very beautiful. I wish I had better pictures of him. He is very nice to ride, very smooth. Though I am having a little bit of trouble rising to his Trot, you see he is around 15 HH, and I am use to riding a 14 HH horse. So it is very different and hard to get used to. Its amazing as soon as you stick your foot in the stirrup, he engages his hindquarters. which probably helps his fast flying changes. I will need to do a lot of trot work with him, because his love is Cantering and Galloping. He is pretty pushy for food, wich helps alot for catching him, though it can be a pain when your bent over double cleaning his feet out and he turns his head and bitess you bottom!!!! He did that to me this morning. He is very good with picking his feet up. You can walk around him, under him. I haven't done it yet, but the previous owner use to do it.
I'll have to post all my adventures wiht him. It'll be awhile before I can jump with him, I'm using a stock Saddle, and I won't be able to jump with that. If and when I do start jumping with him, I'll have to train him from the start.

Thanks, NZdressage but I sure didn't know that he would be a great Jumper. He sure has a lot of forwardness (not leaning on the forhand at all) I mean a very go go atitude (sp?). and he sure does like his flying change. and I do feel like he could jump quite well when I am riding him. So thanks for the insight, because I wouldn't have known.

NewRider101, sorry but you can't have him :D HE HE. No I'm not doing Jumping, Dressage or anything with him at the moment because I can't. I'll explain, He really needs to be taught who's boss and the basics in riding, turning and just really simple stuff like that, going when I ask him too, and not to spook!!! It is very wearing as I am only a new rider. I have fallen of him twice in the last week put a bone out in my neck, wich absolutely makes it really literaly painful to ride him, so I am forced to only ride for half an hour at the most, and even then my back is absolutely killing me. I went to a chiropracter yesterday, but sadly about an hour later I put it out, and back into the same miserable state. I would like to one day do some, dressage, and some jumping, up to his capability, and yeah just an allrounder other than that. Any tips would be apreciated. Oh yeah, and sadly I have to, use a martingale on him at the moment wich I hate to do.

Lovely horse!
Be careful though! You need to nurture your back. Why dont you try some ground work with him until your back fully recovers x

Thanks Denbenj, thats what I am trying to do but, sadly, Blue does need alot of work. I have done alot of groundwork with him, actually I probably naturaly more groundwork with him, then riding. Because, I go and see him (not always but I really try to) 3 times a day, and if I am lucky, I ride him once in those 3, very rarely twice. So yeah, Blue, I would have to say is MUCH better in hand then when you (I mean ME) are on him, it may have something to do with his previous training, but it also probably has something to do with that he is not a very confident horse, wich I really have to watch, because if he feels I am going over the side, he takes off, wich really is something I will have to teach him. How I have started to teach him, that when I lean over he shouldn't take off, is by putting a cup or something on a fence post or something like it and ride past slow down right beside it maybe even totaly stop, and then reach over with one hand, and pick it up. The first time I did that was when I learned what was spooking him, and were his really soft non-confidence spot was, and he took of from stopping to Gallop in a second, the best thng was that I stayed on, because that seems to be his biggest fear is the rider going over board. The second time I did it on purpose, he only got up into a trot, so I did feel like I had accomplished something.

Sammyantha, I keep on our property on 100 acres of Grass. Other here, its 15 acres to one horse. He is extremely easy to catch. If he knows I have food, he will come to me, pretty willingly, but he sure would rather that I would walk right up to him to catch him, but I like him to come to me.
Yes Pedilia, he can be quite a charachter. He ALWAYS wants food.

Wow, he's gorgeous!!! Absolutely jealous of you. I live around southwest U.S.A. where Quarter Horses are extraordinarily popular, and I can really see the QH in him, and with the Australian Stock Horse blood, it's no wonder he'd be a fantastic barrel racer or cow penner. I can also see the head rising to the sky with him. I'd suggest some TTouch techniques, just look TTouch Horse up on Google, and it should pop up. It really helped me lower my TB's head after some time.
Also, I'm 5'3", and I ride a 16h TB, and since we have so many sweet horses around us at our stables, I get the opportunity to ride horses of all sizes, from a 15h Welsh cob, to a 13h QHx, to my 16h TB gelding. It took me forever to figure out my horse's trot, since I was used to trotting on a stocky, 15h western gaited QH, and my Chance is a 16h, lean, long, and definitely english-jumper type-- so it was a major change for me, and I understand your situation. :p Just stick with it, good luck with him, and congrats on your handsome new partner!! :D

Jarani, Yeah well, Quarter Horses are becoming quite popular. But even previous to buying Blue, I knew that the Australian Stock horse and Quarter Horse crossed makes a very good breed, a good mix, for hard work.
I looked TTouch Horse up on google, do you have to either buy the book, or go to one of there events, you see, I live in Australia, and I am not going to fly all the way other to the U.S to go to an event. Also, I don't really feel like buying a book, I don't really know how good it is. I'd personaly like to see it. But I suppose it being in your region, you'd be either able to go to an event or buy the book from a book store. Thanks, any way.
