After being asked to work with some 11.2 very sturdy sec A's i am wondering whether i would be too big or not (not regular riding but for schooling and getting on if they get too busy for their little riders.

I am 5ft 2 and weigh 10 stone

They look such sturdy little things being the more traditional type. Also how long is a 11.2hh likely to last a very short 8yr old girl? (think 5yr old size) on a 13.2hh her legs come to just below the saddle flaps ona gp saddle.

(except for looking v.tall!!!!!!):D:):D:)

I used to ride an 11.1 section A stallion, Im 5'1 and then was about 9.5 stone, I jumped him and allsorts!

Ive always said the pony will let you know if they are not happy to carry you. (within reason!)

This is Small Boy on 11.2

and this is him on a shetland

He fits shetland very well- completely in proportion.

Small Grey Whizzy Thing in first photo is ridden by a 13/14 year old petite girl and she looks same proportion as Small Boy on Hero Shetland Pony

ETA Small was 8 in april and of average height and streak of p*ss build!

The biggest challenge when you're talking adults on 11.2hh ponies is finding a saddle that fits both. Generally speaking if it's long enough in the seat for an adult, it's too long on the pony.

I'm 5'4" and weigh about 8.5 stone; our 11.2hh carried me happily but saddle fit (and my leg length!) did cause a few problems...

when i was thin (6 stone) i rode a 5-year-old Welshie A and was on the border of being too heavy judging by his reaction. i wasn't a bad rider but he rushed quite a lot, had his head up and was clearly uncomfy ... but then he wasn't exactly well schooled anyway.
hmmm...

my friend schools section A's and shes about 5 foot 3 inches and weighs about 7 and half stone, i think any bigger than about 8 and half stone would be too heavy for a wee section A to carry, they don't seem to carry weight as well as other mountain moorland breeds like the little shetland does :p also you might be too tall and over balance the pony maybe you would be better with a pony about 12.2hh ???

Im 6foot & 8 stone & I used to help break a friend of mine's Sec A's.
I also rode her stallion(he was too naughty to be ridden by children!), I used to love it but I did look a bit silly :D
