Rein effects

Tips please. I am trying to get my head round the five rein effects. I am reading, and inwardly digesting Elwyn Hartly Davids Bit and Bitting but by thetime I get to the yard and my horse have forgotten the theory. Brain cells getting old I fear. Con is a superb student, when I get it right she moves and how but any remembering tips out there. Thanks
