Does anyone have one of these and how is it ? Any good or bad points ?
I have had a Griffin Cob saddle in the past, but am currently using a treeless. Wanted to get a nice leather saddle, but dont think I can afford it so thinking of the Wintec.

Hello - yes, I use a wintec wide for my young highland pony and it works really well for us. I had it fitted by a good saddler and he recommended using a griffin nuumed numnah with it (the thick cotton one). I'd tried another saddle prior to that - I can't remember the actual brand, but it was a 'cob' type thing - it didn't fit quite as well, though.

So, I totally recommend the wintec wide, but I'm sure other people will have other experiences. Good luck with your decision :)

I love everything about the wintec saddles, all my saddles are wintec or bates and I have never had a problem with them, even with hard to fit horses. I compete in wintec isabells (I like them better than the bates model), I have had a wintec wide and the wintec 500 and they were both great. I like it how light they are for the horses it must be so much nicer for the horses than heavy leather saddles. I also love the cair panels, my young medium level dressage horse is so much more happy since I swapped his saddle to the cair, hes not afraid any more to use his uphill movement, he just seems alot more comfortable. He can be quite a tense horse when you first hop on but since the cair he has settled more quickly and his topline has developed alot more! I love wintec saddles!

I also use a Wintec wide saddle (basic one) and it's really good. Fits him (and me) beautifully.

I've got one. It's a great fit on 'normal' backs but too curved for the really table-top flat backed beasties as it tips and rocks and slides all over the place. If you get the width right (take the gullet out and try it directly on the back) then the front usually sits too low if you're using the widest gullets. Fitted with an x-wide (white) gullet thought it's great.

I've got one, it was the best fit for my mare, she's wide, with a long back, big shoulders - a big girl. We do have to use a riser, I have settled on a Mattes Wedge Pad, a half numnah in wool, if she muscles up a little bit more I may be able to not use one, which will be the first saddle since I got her I don't have to add a riser too. The saddler brought saddles for me to try for 3 months before we got this, this was by far the best. Her shop didn't stock them but she contacted Wintec for me who agreed to send one for me to try. The shop now stock them :D.

Had the saddler out yesterday, to try and fit a leather saddle. Unfortunately he didnt have anything wide enough ! He said she is going to be difficult to find a 2nd hand saddle to fit.
He did say I will need somrthing quite flat and with narrow panels at the front. She isnt very flat backed, but is very wide, with big shoulders and a bit 'fatty' at the top of her shoulders on the sides of the withers (has hardly any withers). I did forget to ask the saddler about the wintec wides, but wondered if anyone else with a similar round cob, found them to fit or not. If I cant find a 2nd hand leather one I may go for the wintec wide.

Coyote - how did you find the saddle? Although I would be tempted if yours is a 17 or 17 1/2" black, I think if I do get one it will have to be from somewhere I can return it, if it doesnt fit.
