I was wondering, is there an ideal height and weight for equestrian sports? Not including racing, it seems pretty obvious there is. I feel I should start training in some way so that I'll be a better rider, but I wouldn't know where to begin or what to aim for. Could someone enlighten me, please. :)

Basically, whatver is right for your own height and build, is best. A few pounds overweight won't hurt, but excessive weight will not help either you or your horse. If you are severely overweight, it is the equivalent of carrying around a sack of potatoes. To be toned and aerobically fit is the ideal, but as long as you are reasonably fit and able to carry yourself with poise, you will be OK to ride especially at lower levels.

Thanks Heather :)
I'm only a few pounds overweight thanks to winter time. It seems I always gain a little during cold weather. My upper body is in great shape, but my legs are a different story altogether. I was just wondering what would be a good way to start training. I already go bicycling, hiking, and walking. What else is there that could condition me to be more stable on the saddle? More riding?
