I have had my mare since last October. She loses her left front shoe every two weeks.

I have put her on Formula4feet and she never goes any where without her over reach boots on.

I am at a wits end. She can't go barefoot as she gets very footsore and her feet don't fare well.

Any one any ideas on how to keep this shoe on? It's driving me and my farrier mad.

Major cause of lost shoes is white line disease, which soaking in borax, virkon or milton can help a lot with. Or it could just be too many nail holes weaking the foot, can glue a shoe on. If all else fails the best thing to do is to leave the shoe off and let the nail holes grow out and find some other way to protect the foot, either boots or creative use of nappies and duct tape.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. I have been thinking about the boot idea, I'll discuss it with my farrier.

Just thought.. keratex hoof hardener might help as well but need to soak to make sure any infection is killed off first. It helped a lot when fatty was loosing shoes so often I was starting to suspect she had some farrier tools stashed in the field  but not enough really since I did eventually end up giving up and replacing the shoes with some booties.
