whats the difference between an eggbut snaffle and a loose ring snaffle please!

Not to look at - as in what each one does - hope that's making some sense

someone feel free to correct me if they think i'm wrong...

loose rings help prevent/discourage the horse from snatching/leaning on the bit as when they do, the rings move and the tension is released. The fact that it moves encourages relaxation and salivation (i think) I think they also give a bit of 'warning' to the horse too, as the ring moves before the mouthpeice acts on the mouth.

eggbutts are a bit more stable and solid in the horses mouth but this can also mean they can grab hold of them a bit more.

thanks!

I bought a ring one by mistake (via the interent) - we have an eggbut which he is fine in

he's more lazy than forward going so he doesn't need a strong bit

I'll try him in it and see - he may like it better if it encourages him to be all gobby mouthed :D
