I am looking at replacing my Courbette close contact with a Wintec all purpose and I found the VSD. I don't jump and tend to ride with a longer leg so it looks very silly with long stirrups in my close contact saddle.

The VSD seems like exactly what I want - a synthetic all purpose saddle with a straighter cut flap to make it more usable for dressage yet still suitable for low level jumping and other generic hunt seat type riding.

Does anyone have anything to share about the Wintec VSD and its quality? Any advice would be very much appreciated :-)

Thanks!!!

anybody? I've done searches on the Wintec VSD here in the forum so I know some of you are using it!

i have a wintec gp and a wintec dressage and i love them both, providing the VSD will fit your horse then they are really good, comfy and easy to maintain saddles

I have the 2000, which I guess is the same as the VSD except that the 2000 has the equisuede seat  I'm happy with the saddle; it seems to fit my horse well, and I've no evidence it's caused her any problems (chiro is happy). It's also comfortable for me, and dead easy to keep looking nice.

The stirrup bars are too forward to make it easy to achieve a true classical position, but I think that is a problem with pretty much any all-purpose saddle as they strive to compromise. Personally I think it's a good choice if you can only afford one saddle and want to do a variety of activities in it. Provided, of course, it fits your horse.

I love my VSD. I had been having troubles with saddle fit and the saddler came out today and sorted it all out :)

Despite the fact that I expressed ont he phone that I felt a new saddle would be needed for Joy he told me not to waste my money (he makes made to measure too so could have had a sale there). He liked the fit of the VSD for my horse as the cut gives her shoulder more clearance.

One comment he did make is that it was a shame that the VSD didn't come as the flocked option as buying a flocked gives better flexability with alterations. He did alter the panels which I didn't think could be done making the back more suitable for my mares shape. I only thought you could alter the gullet. The changes he made have made such a difference.

Interestingly enough the saddler looked at my friends wintec gp cair and the panel had flattened on one side in exactly the same way as mine had. I went for the cair because I tought it was more comfortable for the horse but I'm not so keen now. I'll be keeping a close eye on Joy's saddle from now on and getting the fitter out as soon as I think there is a change. :)

I found the VSD changed my postion for the better over the Wintec 500 I used to have. My legs are in the right position now where as I had a bit of a chair seat before :o

thanks Joyscarer! That really helps! What kind of riding do you do? A little bit of everything?

I class myself as the sunday driver of riders. :D

I don't know if you have that term over there but basically I do a few long hacks a week just to enjoy being alive and out in the countryside.

I don't compete not do I want to. I don't like riding in the arena but do so to keep my riding up to scratch.

Riding for me is all about relaxing and chilling out :)

I also have a Wintec VSD and am very happy with it. I hack, school and jump up to 2 ft 6 with it - never had any probs so far!:)

Do you feel that the VSD seat places you in a good position and helps to not bounce around? My close contact has a flat seat and is pretty unforgiving for sitting a trot if I'm not doing it EXACTLY correct... I end up bouncing around everywhere
