i know trotting poles are 4.5ft, canter poles 8.5ft, placing poles at trot 9ft, and at canter 18-20ft. although they are all approximate, they are all i know anyway :o:) lol

For jumps that aren't too big - 2ft6ish maybe - and a horse that doesn't have a huge stride, I do three big me strides for a bounce & seven big me strides for a one stride double - add 3 me strides for each extra horse stride, so a 2 stride double would walk 10, 3 strides walks 13 etc. That's my start point, sometimes it needs to be adjusted to be spot on but you shouldn't be far out. For big jumps it'd be 8 strides for a double, add 4 for each extra horse stride. Hope this makes sense!

I was always taught that the average is about 12 ft per canter stride and 6ft each for the take-off and landing
