Flaire Bear has really large Frogs, as in they stick out(I could never have her barefoot as she would be constantly lame as her foot would not lay flat)

Can they be trimmed down?? I know its meant to be really sensitive in there but just wondered if farriers can do that without causing any pain??

Thanks :)

Overgrown frogs can be trimmed down, prolapsed frogs need to be lowered very carefully and cutting any off would reduce the amount or protection between the ground and the sensitive bits inside the frog.

Big frogs don't stop a horse going barefoot, the frogs would pack down pretty quickly once they were getting more pressure though might need pads for a little while for comfort. Really huge frogs can be compensating for other parts of the foot being weak, so once you improve the feet generally the frogs may get smaller because they don't need to be as big anymore.

Tess's frogs were the lowest thing on her front feet when her shoes came off. Within a day or two they'd shed and packed down to a normal height. You do have to be careful, but it's remarkable how quickly the foot can get on with sorting itself out once the shoe isn't there any more :)
