Had a great lesson yesterday so just had to share. My canter was much better and i didnt wobble around as much! i have been doing some reading on getting a deeper seat etc and i think this has helped.

Also did trotting poles for the first time! the first time we approached them horsey skidded to a halt and wouldnt go over them any faster than walk. However after some tips from my RI about riding more positively and looking up etc we managed to go over them several times in trot :D.

I also counted how many times i was told to keep my heels down and it was only two!!! lol :D

So getting better - slowly but surely.

glad you had such a great lesson! i did trotting poles last week and similar problems--you wouldnt think it would be so hard for the horse to trot over them-- the horse would just veer off at the last second or come to a dead stop in front of them. so finally getting him to trot over and keep going was very confidence building!

Good to hear you had a great lesson. Such a good feeling when it all goes well and you feel some improvement - like your deeper seat in canter.

Yes know what you mean with the horsie trying to duck out of the trotting poles. Its a matter of creating a good forward going rhythm with lots of leg to keep them straight- can be exhausting if they aren't in the mood. Had this happen last week....

I know how it feels with your horse, stopping at the Trotting poles, I am just startng to train my horse that, it is fun, learning new stuff. And feeling like you have accomplished something.
Well done, getting a deeper seat, is definitely a wonderful feeling.

Isn't it brilliant when you have a great lesson and feel that you're making progress? When I have a great lesson I'm super smiley for ages after.

It sounds like you did really well trotting poles. I did it for the first time two weeks ago and fell off when my horse stopped before the last one! I think it took a further 4 attempts before I managed to do it without wobbly bits.
