Well,....
I have been taking horseriding lessons since November. So far I think I basically "mastered" trot and slowly getting used to canter.
I am taking private lessons once a week - 1 hour. It is an open rounded arena with a path along and the teacher likes to change the horses to teach me different types of horses.
It took me longer probably to master the trot because :
1, I have started in winter and the horses didn't like the wind and the cold at all
2, I feel that I do rodeo instead of riding. Trying to stay on the horse. Each of the school horses has some "dislikes". So at least half of my lesson I try to move my horse forward!!!, or to the middle of the path!!!. Not talking about the horse who doesn't like to be alone on the path.
So it is really hard to move them forward and then trot and then finally canter
I would like to know if you have the same experience. Are the horses really more crazy or I am just not strict enough while correcting the horses.
Thank you

you might not be in the most consistent riding school environment ! it's swings and roundabouts in a way ... if you can learn and manage on these more difficult horses, you'll end up quite robust ... but ideally you want to be able to concentrate on one thing at a time.

no, no ... i mean if you are learning to trot, for example, it's easier if your instructor sets it up for you so that the actual mechanism of trotting is the only thing you have to do. for example, today, my sister-in-law was learning to trot on our big alpha mare ... so i put them in the round pen, no other horses, and i controlled the horse ... so literally all she had to do was figure out 'trotting'. i'd set it up so she didn't have to steer, or deal with the horse spooking, or being difficult. once she's got that posting thing beautifully, then we will reintroduce other things one at a time, in a controlled way - so at the end of it all she will be trotting in an open area, having to steer and be mindful of other horses. it does sound like you are being thrown in at the deep end a little too much.

that is a nice way to learn. but if i have the lesson, there is most of the time another horse. i was never on lounge. i always have to deal with horse's mood.they always tried to get out of work;-)))
hopefull after all these rodeo drives I will be a perfect rider. However, one another teacher said that I may have develop defensive pose;-)))
I do one thing at a time, just with horses moods;))
