I haven't ridden in about six weeks, and my RI who is absolutely lovely, has had me practicing 'steering' in canter; twenty metre circles with transitions, and lunging me without stirrups to work on sitting trot. Yesterday I went back to the school for the first time in ages, and was riding my regular school horse; about 16.2.
She decided once we'd warmed up, we were going to go and do cross-country! Instead of learning to jump, I was given a jump, told to point Kismet at the jump, canter hard towards the jump, turn him around, canter him back, turn him and do it again! It was sooooo much fun! I sort of automatically leant forward and grabbed Kiz's mane, but it was so much fun as he sailed over and cantered up the hill.
We also learnt to jump a ditch, which was so small I didn't even notice Kiz had gone over it, and then we did a step down/step up in water, trotting through. Stepping up was no problem, but stepping down feels so, so weird! Like being on a roller coaster!
So I learnt in the space of an hour, to canter-jump, jump a ditch and tackle water. Kiz loved it, too, he hates being made to just school inside. Week after next though, I'm going on a canter-hack.
