hey, im tied between the BHS stages (am i right in thinking that all three BHS stages make u a qualified instructor?? ) and going to Newmarket Racing School ... tha stages i can do at Hartpury College for 18 weeks or stage one at my riding school ... tha racing school takes 9 weeks + 1 year work experience and then you are a qualified stable lass ... i really cant make my mind up as i would really enjoy both! lol ... i have dreams of opening my own riding centre when i am older and qualified but i mean, come on :o lol ... i hardly know anything about racing but i really enjoy it and would love to be involved with tha racing atmosphere, but im worried ill be doin it for nothing and could be a dead-end for me ... if anyone has any comments for me about tha ads and disads i be very grateful :D:D

you need to do BHS stage 1, ride and road safety test, stage 2, PTT (preliminary teaching test) and stage 3 then you will be an BHSAI instructor.
you can then take further teaching exams

You are unlikely to do Stages 1-3 in 18 weeks unless you are already at Stage 3 level. What does your current RS say? You cannot finish the AI exams until at least 18 at the earliest.
Life in a racing yard is totally different from a riding school or livery yard but it is probably easier to start on the racing course as the basics of horsecare are the same and it will be easier to move to the BHS exams than the other way round.

oh well errm i dont know now lol
Hartpury College has a BHS stages course (cant remember wat its called) but it does all 3 in 18 weeks ... so it says ...
my RS regularly does the BHS stages and my RI said that i could do them at 16 but i was too late so would have to do it next year as they get booked up
i think i would deffo enjoy tha racing school but its would i want to carry on with racing or come back to normal riding, but then if i did do the racing course and then go back would it have been a waste of time i ask myself ??

The way I see it, the BHS stages will qualify you to work in different areas of the horse industry e.g. riding school, event yard, etc. whereas the racing qualification would limit you to that one area, wouldn't it?

Im going to racing school next summer but you really have to want it or it will be a waste of time. Its gonna be hard work but i bet it will be worth it.
The British racing School is notoriously strict and quite hard to get into. they favour experienced riders from racing backgrounds.

Hello....It took me 3 years to get my BHSAI.. it takes time...and I would say do this , but if your interested in racing then see if you can get a place at BRS/NRC, email them and see when they have places available, its such a popular courses you might not get on it just yet... I have worked in racing for many years...you do NVQ 1,2, and 3 and then is more courses you need to do and if you get far has head lad etc more courses (which are about £500 a day) and there is degree courses too. If you want any help just ask..
Hope this helps on the BHS:
BHS Qualifications
The British Horse Society examination system has an International reputation within the Equine industry. BHS examinations are vocational examinations designed for and aimed at, persons wishing to either pursue teaching as a career or who simply wish to explore the extent of their equestrian knowledge.
All candidates wishing to take BHS examinations must be members of the Society. BHS examinations are currently available from Stage 1 Horse Knowledge and Riding to Stage 4, Horse Knowledge and Riding. All of the Stage examinations are divided into two sections – Horse Care and Riding. These sections can be taken separately but to achieve the complete qualification, candidates must pass both sections of the examination.
If a candidate achieves the Care section of Stage 3 examination, they are awarded the Groom’s Certificate and likewise, if a candidate successfully achieves the Care section of the Stage 4 examination, they are awarded the Intermediate Stable Manager’s Certificate
Stage 3 has a min age of 17

Also find out who your local trainer is, and ask if you can do some work experience or weekends, then you can see if you like it or not

I did my Stage 1 and 2 in 12 weeks-but that was only because I was already at that level. I did my Stage 3 course in 6 weeks but felt I wasnt ready for the exam as my riding wasnt quite there.
I would try & get as much experience as possible before you start taking these exams & make sure you have ergular lessons at least once a week especially for the stage 3.
