As Etta was walking in tonight, it sounded like one of her shoes was loose(according to another owner), almost sounded like she was dragging her foot, but wasn't.

She only has fronts on, and when i checked them, they seemed ok (but don't really know what i'm looking for, other than the shoe hanging off)

Can anybody help please?

Look at the heels, are they hanging over the shoe?
Is the shoe pressing on the bars of the sole? If they are it means the hoof has over grown the shoe and they will need to be re-fitted.

Have a look at the clenches, the nails on the wall of the hoof, are they flat and smooth? If they are risen and you can feel them as sharp points the shoe will be working loose.

How long has she had them on?

Thanks Wally

Have checked her feet, and her hooves do seem to be sticking out a bit at the back. Also i can feel some of the nails on top.

She was shod 5 weeks ago this Monday comin, and the farrier is due out on the 30th. Should i see if i can get him sooner?

I've been using that Kevin Bacon stuff to strengthen her 'eggshell hooves', could that have anything to do with it?

Sorry for being a bit thick, only had her a month, and daugter's last pony was barefoot:)

SOunds like they need a refit or new shoes again then.

Does she have particularly thin walled feet then?

Haffs generally have good feet, I have seen one with feet like chalk, but he was kept stabled 24/7 on shavings and only ridden out in the school for an hour a day or a 2 hour hack.

They kept his feet smothered in grease and they really were like chalk.

Yeah i think she does have thin walls.

Vet came out today to do her teeth, and had a look at her hooves as well. She told me not to worry, they weren't brilliant, but not the worst she's seen, so will wait for farrier next monday.

Thanks for your help Wally, every little helps :D
