I didn't start riding until I was 16 so I missed ponies completely, but I have recently discovered the joys of the little darlings! As well as learning cross-country on a little tiddler I am also schooling a gorgeous Camargue pony called Shadowfax, who I fell in love with immediately. He's about 13 hands, and I'm 22 and 5'7'' with long legs, yet I still think I look better on him than on big horses! He has fantastic paces, lovely and comfy, and I am hoping to do some dressage with him towards the end of the year. I don't dislike riding horses - my old share horse was a 16.2 thoroughbred and I thought she was fantastic - but I have most definitely been converted!

A friend used to hunt on her Camargue called William, he was a little pocket rocket, heaven help anyone who took the micky out of William, he's still be bouncing at the end of the day when the big hunters were worn out.

Welcome to pony addiction :p

I too missed out on ponies as a kid. I rode a few times as a child but my first horse was a TB when I was 20. Then I had a WB. I'm 33 now and have just bought my first pony. They are the best, there is something very special about ponies :D

Ponies are little darlins!!!! They are a lot sharper than horses and are quicker to take advantage when they see a chance to. They are also very sensitive when they sense there's something wrong with their owner (like the way Falcon lets me dismount because of my very painful knees). They are also less likely to panic than horses. I love horses too but at just of 5ft tall I find it difficult to give the leg aids in the right place on a horse because my legs are quite a bit shorter than I'd like them to be!!!

When i first started riding horses that weren't RS horses...at a pony rescue i used to help at, because i was 5 ft 7 and not heavy, but not stick thin, i was always told i had to ride horses. My first loan horse was a 16.3hh TB and after a bad accident my 'get confidence back' horse was infact a 14.2/14.3 pony, and i love him and he is now my full loan. I feel totally at ease, feel the right size etc, and we suit eachother impeccably :D

Also...ive just started exercising and competing my friend's 13.3  if i asked the opinion of me riding her to the lady from the pony rescue she would scream at me that I am hurting the pony :(

But i love both of them, and neither of them have problems with me :D
