Manes & Tails

Hi...
I was just pondering something which I dont know the answer of! In the wild,does the mane and tail just keep on growing? If not,How do they wear it down?? Or is that how horses in the wild can tell each others age?? Hmm.. *Ponders*

I dont know for sure but i think they would just be like the manes of horses who's owners dont pull the manes or tails- they would grow to a certain length but i dont think they would keep growing until the manes start dragging on the ground- you cant effectively escape your predators if you are tripping over your hair!

Some horses naturally grow longer thicker hair than others- i know soome horses, all of whom have 'natural' manes- some have foot long manes, some have shorter thinner manes. They could wear them down in the wild by rubbing on a handy tree or mutual grooming. ;) :)
