Ok i have a resuce called Dusty who is 8. Who faced the kennels if i didnt take him on. No one else was prepared to spend the time to help him.
He has a long history of abuse and neglect. It is suspected that he has substained beatings around the head in the past he takes the word head shy to a whole new level. He will not tolerate having his ears touched and will rear to avoid you. Should you scare him, or touch him when he doesnt want you to, he will RUN. If held on a lead rope he will normally dart away then calm. All you have o do is approach him and he runs. If you really scare him he will bolt. He was cut late and has a thick set kneck so is very strong. When he bolts you have no choic but to let go of him. He is IMPOSSIBLE to catch (we are working on him).
He will lunge in full tack and is amazing on the lunge. He will jump high and is a true gentelman to lead. However if you try mounting him or catching him, or attempt to touch the soars which are on his poll, kneck and withers he shakes with fear.
So i brought him a herbal remedy from Neals Year, the courage one (google it). Havent used it yet. but i would like to know if anyone else has used back remedies for horses and how effective they are.

Do you mean bach remedies, as in flower remedies?

I suspect you mean Bach Remedies :)
I've used Rescue Remedy on both myself and my mare with good results. The first year my mare moved to the yard where I am now (which is also a working farm) she was petrified of the combine harvesters and I had real trouble getting her to and from the field when they were nearby, never mind taking her out on rides. She also didn't drink from the field trough on the days when the combine was in the field opposite where it's placed. I noticed a definite difference in her after a day of using Rescue Remedy, it took the edge off her reaction enough that I could work through it with her. Same for me when I go to the dentist, it just knocks the edge off the worst of my reaction.
A friend used pre-mixed remedies for specific problems on her horse with good results also.

How much Rescue Remedy would you give to a horse, and how would you administer it please?

Lol i mean bach hehe.
Anyhoo he is being moved on Sunday. I plan to herd him into a stable Saturday and give him the remedie 4 times Sat and Sunday to see if he is any easier to handle.
The dosage on the bottle is 4 drops daily under tounge - is this the amount i should use for ihm?
Also my 4 year old got hit by a drunk driver when he was 2 and is PETRIFIED of the roads. if i have sucsess with Dusty i might tyr it with him.
Thanks for the feedback - despite it saying back remedie lol

Dosage is the same for horses as it is for humans, so just use whatever it says on the bottle. I used to drop it on a treat or bit of carrot and feed it that way.

Thanks - it works for me. I have a couple of drops before I go to my banjo playing lesson - mind you - I do have a 28 year old, tall, dark canadian guy teaching me, so at my age, I do need a little help.

Bach Remedies do work, but picking the right one can be a tricky process. An obvious display of fear, for example, might be from past trauma and should be treated with remedies for "moving on" as opposed to "building courage", as courage would not mask the root cause.
This is often why people think Rescue Remedy does not work and say the whole system is ineffective. Rescue Remedy has a very specific use and is not relevant to all cases. There are 37 remedies (if I remember correctly) with any possible number of combinations from individual remedies to a mixture of 7 remedies. If my maths is correct (and it may not be ;-) ) that is over 13 million possible remedy mixtures. So picking the optimum mixture can be difficult!

Dowsing can help to select the right remedy fr a specific animal/person.
I would give him Star of Bethlehem, as specific for trauma and abuse in animals.
In his case, I would strongly recommend Reiki as well.

Comfrey is good for bruising and bones so I suppose it depends on what the problem is! I've used it in humans for bruising and it does help. However it takes a while for it to have an effect as it is generally a slower build up.

i use a mixture of bach flower drops with my horse, he was badly done to and abandond (cant spell) in a field before i got him and often regresses. he has about 5 different ones. i have 8 drops of each in a mixing bottle and it is topped up with mineral water. i put ten drops in his water bucket every day and also let him lick 4 drops off my hand twice a day.
my friends horse has holly in her water to help with her jealousy of other horses.
they have both calmed down and they have only been on them a week. mac has rescue remedie in his little mixture.
