I read the Showing section in Horse and Hound every week and never have the faintest clue what is going on. Each week, someone's really chuffed, some grey pony won 'the cuddy'. What's the cuddy ?

it's a very prestigious inhand championship with final at the horse of the year show.

ahhh ! So each week, I'm reading of the qualifiers to the big finale then !
What sort of a horse is it and example of ? I mean, umm.... an in-hand what ? Because you could show anything in-hand ... these ones seem to be mostly native ponies, I think.

i's (or was, back inthe days when it was the templeton and our stallion qualified a few times) a breeding thing - so anything can enter except geldings. they're jusdged at the final againt their breed type - so the best hunter might beat the best welsh pony, etc. inhand is biggest for the native breeds though, so they tend to dominate although they dont; always win.

In the NE 'cuddy' is another name (dialect) for a horse.
