Don't know why Wannie was such a spooky beast today, but he was shying at everything. We went to the beach - nothing unusual there, we do that most days. Big lump of seaweed made him do the infamous sideways leap in tro - left me with one stirrup and miraculously bum still in the saddle. Settled down and had a nice canter, and a wee bit of a gallop. On the way back we were just walking, stretching out and a little kid ran by dragging a huge log behind him. This was apparently the scariest thing my Wannie has ever seen - honest Mum, it was going to eat us, I just know it

He took off at a canter down the beach. I surprised myself really, just sat nice and calm and circled him, talking to him etc. Once he came back to me we walked past said lad again to prove it wasn't as scary as he thought.

In the grand scheme of things not a scary moment, but it was for us! :o

OOOOH well done. Now which of those lovely Northumberland beaches do you ride on?

Hope he's a little less spooky tomorrow, weather was a bit threatening today don't you think?

Our weather wasn't bad actually, we'd had some rain earlier but it was brightening by the evening.

I ride on the beach at Alnmouth - it stretches from the Boulmer end down to Warkworth. I love it, it's nice and quiet, easily accessible and lots of wave-break thingies to jump too.

Oooo well done you :) It's a great thing that you've survived a bigger spook - it should give you confidence that you can handle the unexpected with Wannie.

p.s. You did know that there are tigers on the beaches in Northumberland, didn't you? :p

Well done and poor Wannie for meeting the infamous horse-eating log!

Lucky you to have the beach too and at least he took off in a safe place not on a road etc.

Wobblydeb - there are indeed tigers. Big horse-eating ones that hide underneath lumps of seaweed.. and in sand castles too. Those crafty critters. :D

well done, you certainly were the one wearing trousers.

I am so jealous of being able to ride on the beach, I would just love to be able to do that
