Hi Guys

I know there has been a thread already posted about BB, but just wanted to know a couple of things...........

I am starting my course in September (cant wait!) and just want to know if I need to turn up in my jod's etc for the first day? Also for people who have already been there I have been told I need to get a BB sweatshirt for the course....I assume I get these from the college and do I need to order one when I get there or before the start of my course?

Hope this makes some kind of sense, just I want to be totally prepared for my first day!!

Have just been shopping and got a Champion Ventair, jodphurs, long leather boots and short boots.......................oooohhh I cant wait he he!:p

I was at BBC last year and for my first day and for the first week it's not very horsey apart from when you get an induction of the yard. This is when you do need to wear jods and suitable boots and top. First day i wore normal clothes as did many others i'm sure there are others that wore horsey clothes though.

For the clothing you should of got an order form you might still get it if you haven't got it. It doesn't matter in the meadows, which is a huge food outlet you'll see a shop same side as bar ;) you can buy stuff from there. I'd take 100.00 i bought a lab coat (you'll need this for science) a sweatshirt, an awful cardigan thing you wore for riding but i only rode in it once it itches like mad on you. :o A T-shirt with BBC logo and a waterproof jacked oh and a tie that came to 96.00.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. :)

Jayneus - are you doing the national diploma?

I didnt know ya had to wear the BB sweatshirt, how much does it cost?

is there certain clothes ya had to wear like blue joddies etc?

What exactly is the first week like? just getting to know the place and people on your course etc?

It's not compulsory to wear the BBC unless in lessons it's an option but you do need to wear a tie, shirt and either the cardigan or sweatshirt for riding as it needs the BBC logo on it. Region price of 20.00 i think

Jods black, brown and beige but i can't remember, for yards i'm pretty sure it can be any colour as long as it's darkish and not bright pink.

First day went something like this:
Go to meadows stand in a queue and you'll get your key for your room, food card and some paper, go to your room and unpack e.c.t
Then something like rags (along the similar lines) which is a club which gets you in groups and each group goes off separate and you have little ice breakers, i'm usually terrified of these things but it was ok.
Then go for tea and i think there was an activity
Rest of the week was inductions to everything

Second week if your in (may of changed) a,c,e or b,d,f (maybe g) these are riding groups the first (a,c,e) have yards monday and (b,d,f) have it on thursday, you get up at 6:30am for yards for 7:00am and it finished about 5. You get put with 1 or 2 horses, muckout, skip, groom, clean tack, tidy yard and then odd jobs.

You dissect a heart, ovaries, leg and lung. The lung was the only thing i managed to get a glimpse of the rest i stayed as far away as poss. I think if you truly disliking doing it, your tutor who's really nice will probably let you sit it out.

Just spoke on the other post as well. Dont let Kirstie throw you off, She was a real wus when it came to science (my lab partner) i was disecting when she was looking in the other direction hehe. Its really interesting.

The first week is just for newbies so you have the whole week to get orientated before us lot come in, hehe.

There really not very strict on clothing except for riding. There pretty lenient in when you get your things too. I wouldn't wear outlandish jodpurs for the first couple of weeks untill everybody settles down. plain dark jodpurs go down well. You have to wear a shirt and tie like has been said and one of the jumpers. Chaps arn't allowed but gaitors are.

You'll have a variety of horses to ride depending on your ability. You wont jump for a gd few weeks due to most of the cobbies being too fat from pasture to move their bellies anywhere!

You will meet my two mares though!!!! they are on working livery and everybody recognises them. They have a serious seperation anxiety problem and scream the place down if one goes for a lesson. everybody laughs!
(pickies on other post)

I didn't live in as im just 10mins down the road but all my friends did. If you hate socialising then it will take some getting used too (Kirstie will explain!) others however enjoyed it but were party animals in some cases.

Ask away for more questions.

Thanks for your post, so is it true that you can loan a horse over the summer/winter? If so how much do you pay etc?

You can loan a horse but i'm not sure about this year. Bishop Burton is having one of the largest indoor equestrian facilities built at the moment so as you can imagine, things will be a little out of order. The stables are gonna be in the car park!!! whether that will make it easier or harder for people to loan horse i am unsure.

You have to get on with the horse you want well before they let it go. I only know one student that loaned a horse this summer and the horse was Brian! You'll get to know him. He likes to eat students for breakfast! Mean thing and she was one of the few that he liked and got on with. he's been there since he was 5 and he is now 18! so hates students and other horses. grr.

If you live in you can also ask to be responsible for a horse and that can be any you choose within reason. Here you have to muck it out, groom etc twice a day and it is your responsibility. You can also ge privaleges as well i think with that horse. It's also a great way to suck up to the yard staff if they see you working with the horse.

I know I keep asking questions but........!

If it is possible to loan a horse how much would I be looking at?

Sasca - Whereabouts in Beverley are you from ? Just wondered if I knew you with living in Beverley myself as you know how small it can be!!

Sasca

Hehe i never even noticed you were in Beverley!. I live in park Ave, HU17 if you wanna put that in Multi map. Its at the end of Manor road near wylies road by the roundabout. Town house! i know, with our count of 200 pets or something like that you'd think we live on an estate. oh well. Where are you?

I really have no idea about the price of loaning. They never mentioned or publicised it. You had to ask. i didn't having more than enough to deal with atm.

Ask away in anything else though. Are you gonna live in? theres a regular bus from the station. Good excuse to leave yard day early.

I know Gemma, I rode her quite alot on first diploma...alot of people are not keen on her as she can be very moody and likes to nip you when doing her girth up! Gemma has organ faliure i got told wheni was last there so i dont know if its a serious problem or not.

i loved Jumping botrh smokey and Gemma there are just ace! I love them both lots!

:)

I just cant wait to ride the different horses again, whether they are lovely or (my fave) the difficult ones as I love a challenge! (I love the sound of Brian, will actually have to see him vey soon!)

One of the tutors (Rachel) didnt say anything about organ failure however she did sounds slightly 'upset' when she went 'Bless her' (cant find the right word...cos im thick)....

Anyone goin on the 9th to move in? Me and Tracet are! :)

XxTraceyxX

Yeah Rachel has spent alot of time with Gemma (last summer Gemma enjoyed a holiday at Rachels house....Rachels next doors daughter hacked Gemma out everyday) Shes just a loving pony and I love her to bits! :)

I didn't like Gemma that much. Never rode her but she looked really odd!!! she had the longest face and smalles eyes ive seen on a pony! Actually i think there was a rumour that they are putting a height limit on horses that are being allowed into college to about 15hh i think.

Hazel and Riff Raff r returning on Monday. Riff Raff with awfull Sweetitch!!! Im going on Wednesday but my friends are in their rooms on Sunday. Really looking forward to returning (except for morning yards!). R u guys all doing National Diploma? see you there.

P.S. the building work seems to be coming on well from the outside. Havn't seen it for a few weeks but the entrace was good. See you all there.
