as in white on hossie yeh ? :p

well im lucky or shall i say unlucky enough to have 2 coloured with alot of white , a grey and a bay with big socks  so when we take them out it takes alota washing !;)

generally i use fairy liquid on legs, mane + tail, reaaallly scrub it in then leave on for 5 mins and wash out , and body i use a mix of tesco's own apple shampoo and fairy liquid again , again reeally scrub it in but i dont leave it on the body for long i tend to just wash off.

brings mine up suuuper white :D , need sunglasses to look at them in show season :p

I just use chalk, in a paste and dry as a powder or block.

To get Zorro as white as he can possibly be...

Step 1: Spot clean with Witch Hazel and White Vinegar... These will really only remove newer stains.

Step 2: I bathe him like crazy with Quick Silver letting it soak for a moment without turning him purple. I do this OVER and OVER until it satisfies me...

Step 3: I have this amazing spray paint made for white horses... works miracles on those tough spots. On top of this I also use baby powder.

We go from this...

Just a few things that I've been recommended but that DONT work - at least not on Mrs P's orange tail & grubby hocks!

Wahl strangely purple (not it's proper name :p) whitening shampoo
Cowboy Magic whitening shampoo
Ecover stain remover
Persil Bio
John Frieda sheer blonde shampoo
Johnson's baby shampoo

I think I'm going to have to resort to the whitening powder, but last time it ended up all over her previously black tack! Just as well I'm no showing diva or I'd be beside myself with stress & worry...as it is I'll just have to wing it!

There is really no miracle way in getting rid of stains that you have allowed to sink in and stain. The only way to keep them really white is to wash off any poo, mud or grass stains as they come. The tail needs to be washed every couple of days in order to keep it white, and not yellow.

I wash my big grey with normal shampoo (at the moment we're fans of head and shoulders 2 in 1). Then, working against the grain of the coat, he has a blue rinse with the WHITE N BRITE blue shampoo. After that, he is rugged with a clean bodywrap and clean rugs. His legs and tail are SCRUBBED and I mean SCRUBBED with NEAT WHITE N BRITE which I leave to sink for five minutes, rinse, and then repeat the leg and tail wash.

Whilst still wet, fill a bucket with ALVASPARKLE and sponge it all over the horse, which seals the coat and prevents any yuk sticking to it. Then fill in the stubborn stains with either WHITE-OUT or BLACK-OUT depending on where they are.

Like I said this isn't a miracle cure! The only way to keep them white is to wash the tail frequently, wash off any spots as they get them, and rinse mud out after hacks etc.

The best stain remover on a white or coloured horse is - CLIPPING :D

Get a cob, when I clip a few days before a show then all the dirt and stains come off with the hair.

Whats left is so short is really easy to get sparkling on show days
