I'm fairly new to pony ownership, and I don't know if I just own a daft pony but he seems to get into far more scrapes than my horse ever did.
He comes in from the field with all manner of minor bites and scratches. He is with the same herd that my horse was in. He never had a mark on him. The herd don't bully my pony but he seems to enjoy a bit of 'rough and tumble' where my horse just went out to eat
Last night he surpassed himself
When I got the yard my pony was in his stable and he had what can only be described as a huge black eye. Called the vet out immediately and she confirmed that he'd somehow whacked himself and had a 'black eye'. He looked like he'd been in a boxing match.
Do you find that ponies get more minor injuries than horses...or have I just bought a little ruffian?

one of my horses is very pony minded - he seems to get a couple more scrapes then my other horse...but then again he is grey so maybe it just shows up more:confused:
honestly i tihnk it depends on the pony...some can be totally chilled out and others little messers - id consider my ponyish horse as cheeky and a bit of a messer
sounds like u got a bit of a messer on your hands too:rolleyes:
any chance of a pic of your horses eye??? ivenever seen a horse with a black eye before:p

I used to have a 16.3hh TBx on share - every time I brought him in he had found himself a new injury:rolleyes: Have also known two other TBs (RS horses) who are always in the wars - have only ever found it to be TBs myself!

Here is the black eye, completely closed. Sorry it's all blurry he wouldn't stand still  Basically his eye looked like the size of a tennis ball!!!!
I think he is a TB disguised as a Traditional Cob :p

All my horses and ponies do my 13.2 just trips and falls into fences all the time( I swear she does it on purpose) solomon our 14.3 cob is just numb and our 16.2 mare just likes to stand on fences and cut her legs!!

Crikey no, touch wood, none of my ponies have any marks on them, and i've had them some of them for 12 years!
The tb type I had on loan used to get things like mud fever, staph infections, swollen glands etc, mine are tough as old boots!

i think horses are more accident prone to be honest, they dont seem to be as settled, and abit more silly.

i'd say the opposite with my two. Peanuts has had about two minor cuts (given he's in barbed fenced field that's not bad going) and been lame once.
Thunder.. other than his gelding and probs after, has never had anything!
Touch wood... ;)

Libs is a right klutz, she also has a black eye at the moment. Managed to headbutt something! I put her down to being a youngster and hopefully she will grow out of it :D

My pony mares...no, pretty smart wee things.
The Arab gelding and other geldings I have owned in the past. Lets just say if they were in a padded stall..they would find a way to hurt themselves. Boys...
They seem to like to rough and tumble.
Hope his black eye heals fast!!

Nope. Kalli (16.2+ so definitly not a pony!) thinks it's a night wasted if she doesn't come in with at least one more patch of missing hair.

Out of my four ... all the pony mares are fine all the time, even the ditzy arab x saddlebred girly .... and the sole araby horse-sized gelding gets himslef cut, scraped and beat up all the time. Mind you, sometimes I wonder if he's been coerced into doing stoopid stuff by one the mean girls

*touches wood a million times* Our two ponies are really tough, occasionally get lumps and bumbs or scratches but nothing remotely serious, they don't even seem to notice. On the other hand, the two horses on the yard are always lame/suffering from some illness or other!

I think ponies do get into more scrapes than horses. They're more adventurous and more inquisitive than horses. Also, more likely to get up to mischief! They seem to come out of 99% of their 'mischievious doings' unscathed.
