I'm taking Dylan to his first show tomorrow - I am definately doing either the clear round or the beginners jumping, but I might have a go at the ridden m&m class too (he's a welsh sec d).
I found a good site which tells me what to do for an individual show but what about tack? I was going to go with a white saddlecloth under the saddle. Is this ok?
I only have a black jacket too so I won't be wearing a tweed one, so I'd like to get the rest right if I can! ;)
Also, am I right in assuming the mane is left natural?
And, will I need to take the tack off? It's just a small riding club open show?
Thank-you! I'm getting all nervous now! :D

No white or coloured cloth - better with nothing at all unless you have a black/brown numnah which fits your saddle spot on.
If you have to wear black then it's ok, it probably won't count against you but it depends on the judge. Worth using black thread for your number, hair in a net in a bun, wear brown gloves, carry a cane and make sure you're wearing a shirt (pref not white) and tie. You might not look as professional as you would in a tweed, but if you make the effort they're more likely to overlook that.
His mane should be natural, but pulling the straggly hairs at the bottom will make it look less scruffy. Natural is hard work too. ;)
Unlikely that he'll need stripping, I've never seen it done below agricultural level, but again it's dependent on the judge. Normally they have so many classes to do they just want to get on with it.
Enjoy :)
Oh, and I recommend you do both jumping classes. Daffy always jumps best on his third attempt at a course, and my nerves have usually subsided a bit by then too!

I thought it might be no numnah/cloth I just wasn't sure!
Thanks for the tip about my hair - I hadn't even thought of that!
I'm beginnning to think about doing both jumping classes - if we are a bit out of control in the clear round then I guess I can just not enter the next class up!
Thank-you! :)

I'm doing at least three jumping classes tomorrow.
Novice working hunter (I think we need a confidence boost), clear round wh (which I will do until we have a clear round rosette!) and M&M working hunter. The height will go up slightly with each, but we'll know the course and hopefully by the time the fences reach 2'6 in the last class, we'll have cleared them all first time.

Good luck for tomorrow then! Let us know how you get on :)
I think I am going to do the m&m, the clear round and then the beginners jumping! Or if I chicken out of the beginners jumping I might have a go at the seniors handy pony for a laugh! :D
