Went to Muleberry show on sunday and had some coments by the judges.
I didnt have time to plait properly so i braided it in this dimond pattern i have seen before. One of the judges said it should have been proper plaits, this was is Novice ridden 13.2 and under. Then in Veteran i was placed down because my jacket was the wrong colour, but i have always ridden in black and had no problems. what do you think?
Anyway i had a great day, the weather was lovely and he behaved very well. I got 4th, two 2nds, 1st and reserve champion:D sorry its so long and please be nice its the first time i have posted photos before

Lovely pics:D Well done for the results:D
Sorry can't comment on the judges comments re the plaits but you looked very neatly turned out so am not sure why they objected to the black jacket:confused:

Lovely pictures, what a sweet pony :) You look very nice together and extremely smart! As regards to the jacket and turnout etc, Im not too sure. Theres lots of people on here who show, so they'll be able to help you more! Usually traditional plaits are used so perhaps the judge was not so used to seeing the diamond pattern. I like it though! :p What colour jacket were the rest of the class wearing?
And remember, no-ones perfect so at least you've picked up some useful tips to use next time! Very well done though and let us know how your next show goes!

nice pics, and in showing you will be marked down on your turnout. If it is close between you and a correctly turned out horse for a ribbon then the correctly turned out one will win.

Lovely pony and you look like you ride him/her well but showing has its 'rules' even if unwritten.
The chestnut pony is presented as a native with unplaited mane and tail. If you were short of time this would have been a better approach but proper plaits would have looked great.
Your jacket is ok for show jumping but you need a tweed preferably or else a plain navy with plain buttons for showing. The idea is the judge is not aware of your turnout just you look smart and blend in well. Try Ebay for a jacket and look ideally for a greenish tweed.
I would lose the kimblewick in favour of a snaffle or a pelham with double reins either of which are more correct.
If you really want to wow then take off your numnah and use a white cottagecraft type girth and a noseband without a flash attachment.

What great pics, you and your pony look very nice.
Strictly speaking the judges were correct and unfortunately most judges will put you down. Its difficult when you are doing lots of different classes at local shows, your turnout is great for jumping and things.
Veteran classes (affiliated) are judged with a lot of the marks (25%) I think for turnout.
Before I tell you what would be correct, we showed for ages with our turnout not correct, including black jacket and managed to do OK, so I'm not suggesting for a minute that you buy all this.
You - does depend on class
Navy velvet hat with flesh coloured harness
Hacking jacket, green tweed is popular but other colours are used (Some classes navy jacket is OK, never black)
Cream shirt with collar and tie which picks up the colours in the tweed
Tiepin
Thin elastic or plaiting thread for your number
Creamy/yellow jods
Brown boots
Joddy Clips
Brown Show Cane
Brown Leather gloves
Pony
Sewn in plaits
Tail pulled not plaited
Brown tack
Bridle depends on the class, either fancy show bridle with bling browband or plain flat hunter with flat browband
Usually Pelham or Double bridle, snaffle is OK in novice.
Oh yes and lose the numnah
Probably forgotten something but I'm sure someone will add to it.
Sorry Eml posted at the same time

Just a fewthings to add to the stuff everyone else has posted. As they say the balck really isnt correct for showing you need a blue or tweed jacket.
Few little pointers, leave the tail unplaited, and pull it instead looks far far neater, i fouy dont fancy pulling then invest in a solocomb they're really good.
Secondly your saddle could do with going back a few inches. It's too far forward and its not good for him, your position and it ruins the line of his shoulder and makes his back look long when it isnt.
thirdly, dont get a tweed from robinsons, thierb usually crap quality for horrendously inflated prices, try darby house or your local tack shop (if your in the area i think you are then aberconwy equestrian shop in mochdre is really good)
Finally a kimberwick is not technically correct either if you feel safe enough try wither a snaffle or preferably a pelham. But its not that important.
Muleberry is one of my local shows but i tend to go to lloc show instead which imho is a better show as they are always on the same day!
