On Sunday I'm riding Rio, the haflinger I'm bringing on his his owners then selling, in his first ridden show.

We're doing prelim 10 and novice ridden (and handsomest gelding as thats in-hand). His mane is rather busy and usually ends up on both sides, should I do a latis plait or a arab/arrow plait (like shires ect) to keep it out of the way or should I just leave it natural?

Here's a pic..

If you were taking him in his proper show class (which would be Foreign breeds) I'm fairly sure you would be expected to leave him natural.

Does his mane really bother you in a messy way, or get in the way? If so, I would put it in an arab plait, I think they look smarter than latices, particularly in the show ring. It's a bit nearer proper plaits.

I can live with his mane, but it does get in the way, and I plaited him in an arab plait today and he looks very smart and it was easier to ride.

Would I just leave his forelock loose though? I think he'd look like an idiot with it plaited.

Thanks.
